Thanks! I'm a big fan of the 'post-rock' bands that I've heard, and it sounds like they could definitely fit into that category. I'll have to look them up.

You're welcome. The Ex are not really 'post-rock' themselves, I think, although that depends on the meaning of the word. But they're quite original and yes, they did play with Tortoise, so there definitely is a connection.

Absolutely Ayreon.

I've worked my way back in their catalogue all the way to Actual Fantasy so far, and I still haven't heard a bad thing out of Arjen Lucassen yet. The synth-playing...and the utterly awesome sound quality...as well as the music as a whole are extremely impresive, that's for sure.

My copy of The Final Experiment reissue will be arriving hopefully tomorrow or so, and I'm really looking forward to it.

(Yes, AF does get a bit less consistent, but that's to be expected with older albums, which I'm more forgiving of than newer ones.)

I got The Final Experiment by Ayreon a few days ago. While, as should be expected of a band's first album, it was noticeably weaker, I can say now that Ayreon has never put out a bad album.

Sorry Fandango, didn't want to make you cry . Neo-prog is allright with me. Nothing wrong with it, as far as I'm concerned.

I should have included Egdon Heath, you're quite right. They deserve to be in the poll. There's some great stuff on In The City and Nebula, to name but a few.

Hi gang.

My pick Earth & Fire.

They made some truly excellent prog with a healthy dose of mellotron.

Did see them warm up for Focus way back and they were much better than them.IMHO.

But I have a weakness for Dutch prog in general.There are a lot of goodies from over there.

Dude, you're missing a pretty excellent called Now. I think they're Dutch, certainly BeNeLux. They're an 80s band, some neo-prog, some symphonic prog. They're recommended.
