A few others

Animals as Leaders - excellent djent influenced instrumental jazz metal
Exivious - instrumental album from the "other guys" on Cynic's new album - very good instrumental jazz metal
 
The Wolverine comment reminded me of Dark Suns - Grave Human Genuine. Kris Gildenlow plays on it, it's a little uneven but the high points are really good.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Thought Chamber - singer from Enchant, with some excellent instrumental work.  This one always seems to be my first prog metal recommendation.  For some reason it just really wowed me when I first heard it.
Hourglass - Oblivion to the Obvious.  An excellent double CD in my opinion.  I believe that Steve (progmetalhead) would concur, although I have seen others who didn't like it.
Anubis Gate - pretty good prog power metal.
Darkwater -  debut album was really good.  New album coming shortly.
Mindkey - Journey of A Rough Diamond.  Good prog metal from Italy.  Have a similar sound to DT and Vanden Plas. 
Savatage / Jon Oliva's Pain - Progressive power metal/progressive symphonic metal.  Metal centered around the keyboards of Jon Oliva.
Pravda - some excellent mostly instrumental prog metal.
Wolverine - strangely enough, a band with death metal growls that really don't bother me all that much.
 
 
I would definitely concur!!
 
Have a look around my sig Ian. PM has such vast differences in soundscapes you may have to try a number before you find what you are looking for.
 
I could go on all day but taking into account who you have mentioned try these bands first:

Try Atheist. It's a very ecletic death metal band. Their last album Element is a link between Death-Symbolic, Jazz fusion and latin music.

ACT is called eclectic prog here but I put them down as prog metal and their album The Last Epic is truly epic.  It doesn't have any epics, though. Wink

I know ACT well and the reason they are not on my list is because I have never considered them Prog Metal. Just don't hear it myself.

Threshold is a great British prog metal band, don't know if it's been mentioned.

My biggest recommendation to you (knowing your tastes) is Savatage's albums such as Streets or Dead Winter Dead.

Also, if you're okay with death metal somewhat in the vein of Opeth, Edge of Sanity's Crimson is an essential masterpiece.

If you like Green Carnation you might want to try In the Woods... and Drawn, same sort of thing as the first two GC albums (Journey to the End of the Night and Light of Day, Day of Darkness) but better.

Not Prog Metal imo. Besides I'm a DT fan...of course I know them,,,,,,so no mentions of Planet X or any other spin off...I'm not an idiot. Well I am but not regarding being able to piece together a bands members historiies.

What's your opinion on growly vocals and such?  If they don't bother you too badly, and if you want something a bit "avant-garde", then you might not do too poorly by checking out Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

Well, I quite like a lot of Prog Metal, and I can give some suggestions:

Between the Buried and Me (start with The Great Misdirect - definitely their most accesible album. Give them a chance also, it took me a listen or two to get into them)

Shadow Gallery (I recommend "Legacy". An amazing album with an absolutely fantastic opener!)

Amaran's Plight (A one-time supergroup. It's a great album though)

Beyond Twilight (listen to Section X. Very interesting music, but quite catchy as well)

Blotted Science (Amazing avant-death-prog-fusion-awesomeness)

Diablo Swing Orchestra (Listen to "A Tap-Dancers Dilemna". Very interesting fusion of prog-metal and jazz)

Ephrat (An amazing new-ish band! They make really great music. Definitely not DT clones though they do have a fetish with 7/8!)

Mind's Eye (Get "A Gentleman's Hurricane". Very good and consistent music with very complex time signature usage)

Protest the Hero (Listen to Fortress. Extremely frantic but really spellbinding prog with LOADS of different sections per song)

Savatage (Gutter Ballet. Not really proggy but pioneers of the genre with great usuage of acoustic piano)

Scale the Summit (Very different instrumental band. Very tight and organized.)

Well, that's all I can think of for now, but check them out. Some great bands there!
