When I saw the title, two names immediately came to mind: Bixler and LaBrie.  LaBrie sounds great with all of the studio effects, but is almost impossible to listen to live (in my opinion).

I definitely find that the vocals of Lee and Hammill (even Jon Anderson) are grating at times, but not near enough to sway my vote.  I voted for LaBrie (and The Human Equation is one of my absolute favorite albums!).

I still fail to hear such a terrible difference in Ian Anderson's voice, as compared with their original 70's songs (or live songs in the 70's), and the live versions on "Live at Montreux", for example. For me his voice is more than adequate on "Live at Montreux", I don't hear it much worse than the earlier versions of his songs, and as a matter of fact, I like many of the songs better on the Montreux album... they kind of rock more.

He's able to sing on all their 70's stuff, but during recent shows, he generally moans. I guess it works fine within folk music though.

I'm sorry but this cannot go without comment. Ian Anderson's voice since the early 90's has been nothing short of embarrassing. Here at Montreux 2003 IA does his best impersonation of "Popeye The Sailor Man"...vocals start at 1.11. I saw Tull in Melbourne in April this year and nothing has improved for Ian...the music however is still excellent especially Martin Barre and I am looking forward to the new album........let's hope it is all instrumental!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a run of bad luck, I mean to loathe the singing of Greg Lake, Gordon Haskell, Boz Burrell, John Wetton and Adrian Belew. At this rate they'll be auditioning a squeaky toy for the next albumConfused

I've avoided Dream Theater so I don't know the voice of LaBrie (who's leading the poll) but I can't imagine anyone killing my ears like Peter Gabriel.  I don't know what it is about his voice but something in it makes my ears bleed, which is odd because I enjoy bands led by singers that I've been told "sound like Peter Gabriel".  Roger Waters isn't much of a singer, either, and is totally worthless musically when David Gilmour isn't around (but that's a different argument).

It took me a while to get accustomed to PG's voice, in large part because of the "tentative" quality he had on the early Genesis albums.  He's not a great technical singer; a lot of times he sounded as if he wasn't quite going to hit a note squarely (the Genesis Live version of "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight" demonstrates what I mean very well).  Having listened primarily to "confident" singers before that, it was hard to get used to.

The Mars Volta guy.  He has a good vocal range, but he's just sooo over the top.

Certainly LaBrie for me.  I find Jon Anderson irritating often times but this cover of Heart of the Sunrise manages to make THAT sound angelic. This is just so flat and so 'wrong', not in terms of hitting the right pitches but in terms of getting to the, well, heart of the song:

Life isn´t only positive, thus music just too, that´s a fact. So, why don´t make one slightly negative poll among one hundred positive ones? (Besides, it´s evident negative polls are quite successful, is it?)

By far James LaBrie though I find it hard to stand Geddy's voice as well. I'm surprised you didn't put Peter Hammill on here. I personally love his voice but I know many who don't agree.

I´ve been hesitating about him (I´m not his huge fan), but finally I decided to not include him, due to his 2nd position in my recent "Prog Singers" poll.

Didn't Peter Gabriel win that poll?

Oh my god, you're right, this is some of the worst singing ever recorded. That's obviously a difficult song to sing, but I give him no credit for they should never have recorded it if he couldn't sing it well. With that said, this is still the best Dream Theater track I've ever heard.LOL
