Yeah... Mars Volta vocalist grates on my nerves after a while... its so dominating.
I almost voted Roger Chapman but it is so distinctive it created a new genre - the bleating sheep

Other: Frank Bornemann from Eloy simultaneously makes me cringe and laugh. It´s a pity, because I do love the actual music of Eloy. One of those bands that should have stayed with their native tongue.
As a matter of fact, I think there´s a lot of "annoying" voices in prog, where the real problem isn´t the actual singer or his/hers timber, but rather their horrible pronunciations and add to that an accent, that would put Arnold -The artist formerly known as The Governator to shame. Bornemann has a very good voice - just listen to Planets or the song Apocalypse - it´s just in the wrong language. I could name a few others, especially from Germany and Italy, but I´m lazy and I have big shoes.
Come to think of it, only Amon Düül ll manages to sound great to my ears, whilst still maintaining that Germanic accent (Maybe Grobschnitt too).

Actually, if Radiohead counts as prog, I would have voted for the singer of that band. I dont listen to Radiohead - the singing is the biggest reason. He is more annoying than anyone else on this list.
I voted "other", as I lost a lot of interest in Genesis when Collins took over the mic. To these ears, the stuff they released from '81-'91 sounds (mostly) like screaming over a drum loop. That said, Gabriel did have his fair share of abrasive noise on "The Lamb..." (which I can never again listen to).
I love Gabriel's vocals on "Back in NYC". Not sure if this song is one that you are referring to, but heh.

There are plenty of 'non annoying' prog voices - Jane Relf, Greg Lake, Annie Haslam, Steve Walsh, Russell Allen, Daniel Gildenlow, Rachel Cohen and so on. And, not that you referred to it, it's a myth that prog is so interesting musically it doesn't need vocals or great vocals cannot embellish it. It would have been and would be more commercially successful if that myth had been crushed long before.

I like all of the vocalists on the list that i've heard (which is most of them), but if i had to vote - probably Roger Waters or Geddy Lee.
Geddy Lee's voice was kinda annoying on early Rush songs, but also terrible on the Time Machine tour when i saw them, and Roger Waters is just a bit annoying at times.

Geddy Lee for me, but I can see why some would vote for Waters - his vocals on the Wall are vile.........but I may have already said enough about my dislike for the aforementioned album.....

Certainly LaBrie for me. I find Jon Anderson irritating often times but this cover of Heart of the Sunrise manages to make THAT sound angelic. This is just so flat and so 'wrong', not in terms of hitting the right pitches but in terms of getting to the, well, heart of the song:
Oh my god, you're right, this is some of the worst singing ever recorded. That's obviously a difficult song to sing, but I give him no credit for they should never have recorded it if he couldn't sing it well. With that said, this is still the best Dream Theater track I've ever heard.
