Progonomiyaki is more like Prog pancake. I would eat okonomiyaki a lot when I taught near Osaka. I kind of like it because okonomi sort of means "what you like or want".

I was thinking of suggesting Progisoba before, which refers to Japanese noodles, and noodling is common to Prog.

Recently we were contacted by a live house in Osaka, because they want to create an event around prog rock. And as we would be the main act, they want us to choose a name for that event, which would be used every time we would play there, with different bands each time.

Trying to make a pun with "Prog" and "Osaka"... And I also have in mind that Tezuka Osama was born near Osaka.

What does the title of his movie "Aru machikado no monogatan" mean? I have a booklet saying that the title would be translated as "Stories of the corner of the street".

Why not something like "Prog at the corner of the street"?

I don't like Progzilla myself. Prog Noodle would rather get my vote.

How about:

"Progzilla" invokes not simply "monster" only, but invokes surprising mutation process too, power of music evolution

And next merits:

If name of event is name for neo-mythic animal, you are on good way for some attractive mascot and logo. Godzilla monster is protected by some rights propably, but fantasy for mutation is without limits.

And you can to adopt some lovely iguana in zoo for better publicity. (inspirated by Wiki Longevity in the wild is unknown but is presumed to be many decades. A Blue Iguana named "Godzilla" captured on Grand Cayman in 1950 by naturalist Ira Thompson was imported to the United States in 1985 by Ramon Noegel and sold to reptile importer and breeder, Tom Crutchfield in 1990. Crutchfield donated Godzilla to the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas in 1997 and the lizard remained there until its death in 2004. Thompson estimated Godzilla to be 15 years of age at the time of his capture.[23] At an estimated 69 years of age (54 of which were spent in captivity), Godzilla may be the world's longest-living lizard for which there is reliable record.)

Seeing as how it's Japan, how about Prog Sushi: Food For The Mind?

So ... question here ... is this because all those monsters destroyed Tokyo so many times in so many movies?

But I agree ... progzilla is bit on the fad side of things ... and I am not sure that "progressive" music is a fad at all ... i would imagine that (at least conceptually), one would want something that describes the work better.

I'm way too conceptual to use something like Progzilla, as well ... but my idea, if I were to do this and get some attention is to put up a blank sign ... all white ... with maybe just a little black dot in the middle of it, and around the band you have a couple of dancers, 2 ballerinas, 2 fandango dancers and 2 modern dancers, and 2 strippers all dancing to the music ... and do not EVER say anything about the dancers and what they are doing and turn them loose!

The following week have a painter on one corner of the stage, another paineter on another corner of the stage, and another cartoonist on the other side of the stage ... and they draw inspiration and work from what you play! Do not talk about it.

The following week you have a couple of writers ...

The following week, you have some manequins ...

The following week, you have a couple of folks with video cameras recording the audience and their reactions ...

The following week, you all turn around and face the back side of the stage ... dancers in the front show you up instead! ...

Can I say that if you do not have ideas, that your music does not speak for you all as well as it should to be called "progressive"? You really think I would have an issue staging Thick as a Brick or Passion Play, or Tales from Topographic Oceans, or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway?

The question is ... why are you asking, and not validating your own music and work? And I mean that sincerely and honestly, so you can have a better chance at making it on your own. You're not going to go far with everyone else's suggestions, since tomorrow is a different one and you will not understand what is being asked of you! You can't live by someone else's ideas or input ... it has to come from within you and your work!  Or as I say all the time ... it's about ... "YOU".

Maybe we really shouldn't have "prog" or "Osaka" in the name? Maybe we need something clever and subtle?

I agree with you for Osaka. It will be a very local event, so we don't need to write Osaka in the title. But i think the word "prog" or at least "rock" is necessary. This live houses organizes many events with many bands and many genres. As we would like to attract prog fans, i think we really need to specify that it's a prog event. That event would be held on mondays every two months...

I love "Prog'zilla : a monster event" because it's very catchy, but i also like "Prog rock till you drop ! " (i like the rhythm of the sentence, and the slogan of Osaka is "eat till you drop"). How does it sound for english natives ?

By the way Moshkito, when i wrote that i was waiting for the other members opinions, i was talking about the members of my band, not the members of this forum.

I like Progzilla.

If the other members of the band don’t like it, what about using a famous song by King Crimson, Matte Kudasai? It means "Please wait" in Japanese, doesn’t it? Maybe you could coin it with other words to make a kind of pun.
