Perhaps Mark Duggan would have done better than to carry a gun around with him.

Not sure what that is or what it refers to since you didn't cite a source. Look

3/4 of the officers have been convicted. The other's trial has not yet concluded (or may not have started not sure).

Administering the death penalty without even having a trial for possession of a firearm. Makes sense.

Nowhere in your link does it say they were convicted, hopefully today they will be.

Indeed, but a jury decided that that wasn't what happened. And he would have done better than to carry a gun around. Not the first occasion either.

Hmm. You're right. I'm sorry. I thought I had already read about this happening.

Not a problem I think we both would like to see justice.

NO. You are of course right. The officer concerned had decided at the time that he was guilty and didn't deserve a trial so he took the law into his own hands and executed Mr Duggan.

I wasn't talking to you. My comment to you still stands. I'm aware of the jury's poor decision in Duggan's case.

A little perspective is needed here I think.

Number of people killed by US police officers in 2011 - unknown, but average annual "justifiable homicides" is 400 (in 2012 it was 587)
Number of people killed by UK police officers in 2011 - one (number killed in 2013 - zero)

As a result of the Mark Duggan inquiry UK all armed police are to use body cameras from August of this year.
What?

At least someone being killed by the police not only makes the news here, but, its headline news and apparently makes the news in the States too!

No, I made a comparison between two radically different approaches to armed policing. Your initial post was the spark, the discussion moved on, but if that's your attitude then all I can say is guns=bad and killing = bad and that's about the full extent of my interest here.

Using frequency for perspective I am sure is reassuring to the families of victims of police brutality

Is the cult of guns related to the cult of cops?
