What's the best Yes album cover by Roger Dean?

I asked Roger what his favorite is, and after everyone has voted, I"ll spill the beans (hint: it's not Open Your Eyes!)

I quite like the Keys To Ascension cover. Very striking and I've always liked the slightly gaudy mixture of blue and red/orange.

Tales.

Too bad he put the temple on that: I understood that the only reason that he put that on the cover was because of Anderson. Anderson should have let Dean do what he wanted to do.

Drama is powerful. Also CTTE has a beautiful minimal cover. I like Yesshows as well.

Relayer is the best, although Drama made the biggest impression on me, because it was the first Yes album I owned....

Yes covers are one of the very good reasons for still owning a record player (even though I don't).

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I unly have the CD versions, and as many know, these covers are to big in scale to work really well in the small CD cover format.

I had a poster of the ABWH album, I think that was really his best

I always thought Tales From Topographic Oceans, until The Ladder came out. That's my fave with Yesyears a close second.

Well, you see, ah, I am, and for a long time, being in the...

No.

But I met him briefly on the 2004 Yes tour. And I asked him which he liked best. I will post his answer soon. I don't want to influence the outcome.

btw, I forgot "Evening of Yes Music Plus" - very cool Dean painting.

damn, ive never seen ABWH cover. its very nice. i'd probably change my vote from relayer to ABWH. i wish i would have read on before voting.

personally, he is one of my favorite what i like to call "world" artists. "sci-fi" may be a bit closer.

Yessongs,

The original package contained three albums in a foldout spread and a booklet of the band in concert. Pretty neat for '73.

Then relayer

Definately Tales from Topographic Oceans.

Oh crap, I forgot about Relayer. That's my favourite and I can't revote

Oh well.

I read some list-thing of the most famous/recognisable albums covers of all time. Dark Side of the Moon, Asia s/t debut and Tales were some at the top.

If I remember correctly, Asia was #1, but I'm not sure....

Anyway, before Kirklott spills the beans, I think Roger Dean's favourite is Tales.

Well, I'm getting really old (42), and my memory is failing, and ah...what was I saying.

Oh yeah, before I forget, Roger Dean told me his favorite is...

This really surprised me because I love Dean's use of color (ABWH, etc.), and Relayer was so...gray. I know Anderson has criticized the lack of color.

I voted for Drama. I love the graphics, including the shiny Yes logo and the Drama font, the weird mix of landscapes, the panthers, those strange red ripples in the bottom left corner, etc.

.

The album may have sucked, but I thought the Union cover was pretty neat. You didn't include that one here.

Holy smokes, you're right! The trauma of listening to the album must have made me forget the nice cover.
