Sarah Pillow is one of my favorites!  I saw her perform in Chicago with her husband/vibist Marc Wagnon, guitarist John Goodsall, and bassist Percy Jones!  (I don't remember who the drummer was, but he was good!)

I guess most of the ones I can think of have already been mentioned, but in case you haven't heard them, Renaissance is the top of the iceberg in prog world. And another favourite around here, though I barely know her, is Kate Bush. A current one that I have been liking is Iamthemorning. And of course, there's a whole lot of bands from the female fronted metal bands, mostly symphonic, or folk metal, or gothic, etc. The ones I know most are Nightwish, Epica, After Forever, Within Temptation and Tristania... and though I don't know them so well, The Gathering are among the favourite ones among the fans of such music (of course, some of those bands share vocal duties with growling).

The three Fairport Convention progressive British folk albums What We Did On Our Holidays, Unhalfbricking and Liege & Lief with the ethereal Sandy Denny singing (their self-titled debut album is also very good but it is more a straightforward emulation of American folk rock with nods to Dylan and Joni Mitchell).

Haunting vocals.

Looking over the list I just posted ^ I must say, I think there are far more great female singers in prog world than males--I love every single one of the voices on that list!

Oh one more that is a personal favorite that you won't find on the archives and that is a band called "Eye to Eye".  They only released a few albums in the early 80s, but they were a very awesome band with a Steely Dan style jazz-rock.  Lead singer is Deborah Berg and she co-founded the band with pianist Julian Marshall.

There are also great bands out there that have female lead singers that share the duties with male lead singers.  For instance, bands that are listed on this site like Black Mountain, Anathema, Archive, Dead Can Dance, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

There are some great female soloists that most people here know that are also listed on this site like Kate Bush, Bjork, Tori Amos.

Just naming some obvious ones off the top of my head.

What style are you looking for?

Off the top of my head, and with prog in mind:

Renaissance
Curved Air
Magenta
Mostly Autumn
The Reasoning
Panic Room
Karnataka
Touchstone
Iona
Anathema
Iamthemorning....

.... along with a whole raft of solo artists, obviously. Sometimes vocal duties are shared with males.

Loads more, no doubt...but can't promise you'll think they'll fit your tastes and consider them great, though.
