I'm not a fan of either band. I can't stand Jimmy Somerville and The Communards and The Cure are a constant source of dis-ease for me, having only been added belatedly following Silly Puppy's suggestion.

^ China Crisis had a knack for writing catchy tunes, even if some of their lyrics were like a riddle wrapped inside an enigma. I still have no idea what Black Man Ray is all about, but it's a great song.

I have always liked China Crisis for the way their music sounds, however I find them lyrically a bit soft, if not downright baffling at times.
It's not that I dislike baffling lyrics as such (Jon Andersons lyrics for one example) it's just that China Crisis seem to have a "that'll do" attitude to their lyrics. "Decorate, paint it for the union (?) No reason to give up on the illusion." Arizona Sky "Don't say walk I may lose my fear." Christian Their lyrics can go from profound to mundane in one line.
