So I've been listening to a lot of Primus lately. I've always seen the "Primus is just Hillbilly TOOL" jokes before but I'm starting to see some similarities between the two. Both do have pretty good prog influences on their sleeves, Adam Jones occasionally channels Robert Fripp and Larry LaLonde occasionally channels Frank Zappa they are also some (in my opinion) of the best guitar players the 90s had to offer

The corrosive atmospheres that Adam Jones creates are of a unique consistency, I prefer the Tool guitarist.

Although I do like Primus and enjoy their music, their guitarist strays into nonsensical stuff too often for my tastes. I do understand sometimes this has to do with the bass player's choices too, but he doesn't burn my ears off.

Tool does it for me.
