Maybe you want to edit the title so that it's clear what the thread is about?

Anyway, as some know around here I'm a big fan of much of the Can members solo works. Holger Czukay has some absolutely outstanding albums (with Canaxis 5 and Movies groundbreaking when it comes to non-digital sampling), Irmin Schmidt has a great discography, Jaki Liebezeit has his hand in a lot of good music, some with his name on it (if not totally solo), Damo Suzuki has done nice improvised stuff, and even the Michael Karoli solo album is interesting.

Of course there are more bands that qualify, but let's see what others come up with.
I make typos so you see I'm not a machine, but I may be a machine pretending to not be a machine.

Tangerine Dream — I own numerous solo albums by Edgar Froese, Johannes Schmoelling, Peter Baumann and Michael Hoenig (though he was only a touring member, briefly) that I classify as indispensable. Then there are solo albums by Ulrich Schnauss, Christopher Franke, Ralf Wadeful, Steve Jolliffe, Conrad Schnitzler, and even Jerome Froese that are quite good.

Best solo albums from two of my favourite bands:

The Beatles
Paul McCartney - Band on the Run
John Lennon: Plastic Ono Band, Imagine
George Harrison: All Things Must Pass
Ringo Starr: Ringo

Pink Floyd
Syd Barrett, The Madcap Laughs, Barrett
Roger Waters: Radio KAOS, Amused to Death
Dave Gilmour: David Gilmour, About Face
Rick Wright: Wet Dream, Broken China
Nick Mason: Fictitious Sports (worth checking out for the presence of Carla Bley & Robert Wyatt)

Not that hard to argue, all those musicians mentioned did some poor albums as well.

I know you're not a fan of Open Your Eyes, so I'm guessing you're primarily thinking of Billy Sherwood, who came last in a recent Billy Sherwood poll - which I couldn't resist mentioning again.

Usually, I'm not so fond of works of solo artists, but Rick Wakeman is definitely an exception, with at least a couple of albums. Mike Oldfield too if he can be considered as a proper solo artist.

I like too a couple of albums by an artist who has played in the Chinese Cool Zone / Cold Fairyland, and that is:

Lin Di - Ten Days in Magic Land (2003)
Lin Di - Bride in Legend (2004)

I was gonna mention Yes, but then I thought it was too obvious and overdone of an example so I decided not to. xD

If trying an inter-subjective answer, I can suggest to have a look at say 500 highest-rated albums and see, which solo artists' works are the highest rated, and which bands they have been members of. Then one can try to figure out the answer to the OP's question. - A lot of work!

As it might be remembered, in 2019 I made a top 160 all-time list for Progressive Rock defined as a meta-genre and on basis of all the ratings on RYM and PA, but including only one album per artist.
This list includes following solo artists, beginning with the highest rated: Frank Zappa, Robert Wyatt, Mike Oldfield (?), Steven Wilson, Steve Hackett, Peter Hammill, Al Di Meola, Billy Cobham, Manuel Göttsching, Klaus Schulze, Rick Wakeman, Neal Morse, Steve Hillage, Chris Squire and Christian Vander.
