Indeed. I think the title of this thread says more about the ignorance
of some prog fans than all those forum posts put together.

ok this thread has gotten way out of hand I only started it to show that Punks have discussions on prog just like we discuss punk. I just found their discussion interesting, especially since it was sparked by a member of ours (I believe)
I did NOT expect our members to go over there and pick fights
And yea, I called em 'punkers', it was dumb, cause I'm used to saying proggers, not progs.

I'm all for you defending Punk. I myself like a fair bit of punk eg
Rancid, Dropkick Murphys. But I'd rather you didn't insult other bands
in doing so.

In the case of Galleon I'd say Teaflax is being kind.

In the Netherlands they're called "punkers"... we don't have the word "punks"

Well, that ain't happening. I'll call out crap, wherever it hides.

Oh well, well I meant the correct English term of it, I'm not sure what it is in some languages, but in English its Punks.

First of all, hello, I'm new here... My first language isn't English (I can't write in English very well, but I do my best!), so:
- If something is not very understandable, forgive me
...
- If something is not very coherent, notify me, I will change the redaction...
The main idea of this post is: "If some punks are silly enough to post things like the link above, we should have proven them no progheads would be silly enough to reply". It's too late, I think. Whatever.
Yes, I feel offended by what those punks said. Although I don't listen to punk too much, I think I am open-minded enough to respect it for what it is. And I expect the same from them. But the point is "Should I waste my time and energy replying to such posts?". The answer is no. And if I feel offended by the topic linked to above, I don't feel less ashamed for what people like "Prog and nothin else" post.

yea, prog and nothin else was certainly taking the wrong approach, his username alone gives prog fans a bad name.

Christ, this is kinda sad. Some of the comments made by both sides are
just flat out stupid. Ex. 1 "99% of prog fans are virgins...prog fans
have no friends...never get out". HEY LOOK, WE'RE BACK IN FIRST GRADE!
ALRIGHT! Why don't we just call each other gay faggits and be done with
it? Honestly. Ex. 2, simply saying our music is better than yours.
Music taste is subjective. Just because I love prog doesn't mean I'm a
greasy dork or sloth as one member of their site so nicely put it...or
just because someone is a punk doesn't mean they have spiked purple
hair with their shirts off or whatever half-assed stereotype you wanna
bring out. You could get screwed every night all night and love
prog...you could never get out and listen to punk. It's all subjective
as in, varies from person to person? Kthx.
Oh...sorry to bump this, I just couldn't keep my mouth shut.

haha...i know that feeling, i once got in a big arguement with ivan melgar morey on digitaldreamdoor.com after trying to suggest that bjork could be prog...we tore each other apart, ah...good times, good times...where is ivan by the way?, i miss the guy.

|
LOL, I remember that argument. Sorry to answer you after so many days, but I've been out due to familiar problems, but I'm back to make your life miserable whenever you try to add Bjork to the Archives.
Good to see you here Boo Boo, hope your musical taste is better than a few months ago .
BTW, why people keep bashing punk...if you don't like them, just ignore them.
There is too much prog' to talk about and plenty other genres some of us like more, why waste your time writing about a genre you don't like????

^ I used to post there a while back (haven't since about February)... anyway, I seem to remember this argument, you two were really at each other's throats.

To get back to the argument about whether music with poor musicianship
can be worthwhile: not all badly played music is inherently simple.
A case in point is THE SHAGGS' classic "Philosophy Of The World" (1969).
FRANK ZAPPA was one of the first musicians to discover that album, and
reputedly paid $1000 for a copy some time in the seventies. Its other
adherents include CARLA BLEY, by any standards one of the most
innovative pianists and composers the avant-jazz world has produced
(keynote work: the triple album "Escalator Over The Hill", 1972).
The point is that Zappa, Bley and many other extremely capable
musicians have struggled in vain to reproduce the sounds on "Philosophy
Of The World". It simply wasn't possible for them to unlearn their
technique and reach a state of naïveté sufficient to produce such
incredibly original, bizarre music.

I just dont get why were divided on so many issues. To say that punks are closeminded can in some cases be true. However, rather than immediately bash their website, lets look at our own. How many of us continuously bash those 'closeminded' DT fans. Or the prog-metal genre as a whole. (Don't mean to get all philosophical, but let he without sin cast the first stone.) Lets just all agree on one thing; at least we listen to music. We should all rally around the destruction of rap.
Then claim it was our superior intellect that destroyed it.
