It's been along while since I discovered a new band that really wowed me. I love textured, psychedelic, heavy stuff.

Cynic's Traced in Air is to me one of the best albums ever made.
Devy of course

I'm getting pretty burnt out on the DT style prog metal, tradtional post-metal, and both glam and overdone harsh vocals.

Suggestions?
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

In the Woods... might be worth a try. Omnio probably has the best material but the production is a little flat, the live album has all of Omnio on it plus a good mix from their other two albums and the covers compilation, minu the harsh black metal vocals of the debut so I'd try that first.

I'm listening to In the Woods now, I don't know why I never got into them...listening to the live album and liking what I'm hearing.

Ancestors will be next if Spotify allows.

Assuming you already listen to Intronaut, Baroness, etc.

Ever tried *Shels?
Boris also have some stuff that's ridiculously trippy, although for whatever reason the pmt utterly refuses to acknowledge them for the site.

edit: holy sh*t ancestors is awesome

Yeah, ancestors rock ^^, "Of Sound Mind" is an excellent album.

BTW, Samsara Blues Experiment are as heavy and trippy as hell:

I got Baroness and Intronaut covered (and Mastodon who is related).

The stoner thing is ok to me but I like it a little more upbeat, I'd rather listen to QotSA than sludge like SubRosa.

I haven't tried *shels yet but I will. Ancestors was good but pretty draggy. I like color, texture, richness, energy.

But you've given me at least a day or two of new dishes to chew on. THX.

I know you said more up beat, but what about Neurosis? Not the most up beat of groups, but albums like Through silver in Blood and The Eye of every Storm are pretty psychedelic to these ears. Yet heavy as hell.
Another factor is originality, and these guys practically invented this sound.

Yakuza, Minsk, Mastodon, Neurosis, and sometimes Jesu have psychedelic tendencies.
