Four great tracks, but The Ritual is my favourite.

To add, it is a source of disappointment for me that they haven't performed those two tracks, plus "Sound Chaser" and "To be Over" on any of their recent DVD releases. Here's hoping they do another Symphony live DVD with these tracks, along with "Awaken". That would be magic! |
oh man..that would be sweet.

That's true. Being a Yes fan means being a dreamer. That is what is so good about their music. Their music expresses mystical yearning and artistic ambition like no other.
I do have to say that their version of "Awaken" in the Live at Montreaux DVD is absolutely fantastic. Apart from a couple of wrong notes by Wakeman, the band plays the track wonderfully well. They are extremely tight and they really bring the track to life.
Overall, I think that the Montreaux DVD is one of their best of the recent DVD releases, second only to Symphony Live.

The Revealing Science of God is so good it would make any album that it was on a great album.
I very much enjoy all of the tracks but tend to agree with those who suggest that a bit of editting would have improved sides 2, 3 and 4. There was no law which says that all sides of an album had to be 20 minutes long.
The result was a tantalisingly flawed genius. All of the components were there to make it the greatest album of all. Maybe its not too late for the 5 of them to get together and do a second take.

The album taken as a whole is a mess. I like the first ten minutes of the first side which got my vote but that peters out except for the wakeman solo. The second side is weak and puts me to sleep . I can't redeem anything from that side. The third side starts and finishes well but the middle part is nothing but a pointless jam to fill up the side. The fourt side has it's moments but could be done in about a third of a time.
Overall I don't think there is even a good single album here.

The remastered CD version gets even worse, with three sides crammed onto one CD and the forth on a 2nd CD with two completely unnecessary bonus tracks of Dance and Giants that are nothing more than studio rehearsals of the final cuts. It completely mystifies me why they would want to make what is universally renowned as a sprawling indulgent and incomprehensible album even more so (it also spoils the logical album denouement of Ritual)

/\ The new remaster is amazing the 3min added in the begining of The Revealing Science Of God- Dance Of The Dawn realy improves the whole song and the 2 bonus tracks are very intresting and good. And the sound ofc is superior to all other older versions.

The added intro is good, but I'd struggle to say it improves Dance that much and I could not honestly call it amazing as a result of its inclusion.
Yes, the bonus's are interesting and good (I doubt Yes are capable of producing bad versions of their own tunes, and if they were we'd never get to hear them), but they are not necessary on this CD - they are not radically different and add nothing other than another 40 minutes to the playing time - for completists only and they would have been better on a seperate bonus disc rather than tacked onto the end of Ritual.
can't argue with the improvement in sound quality though

For me, it's easy - "The Revealing Science of God". This song is pretty much essential Yes to me. Ritual is great as well.
