I guess I just didn't expect this degree of mainstreamness in an forum for (mostly) non-mainstram music appreciation.  (and my problem (assuming I have one) isn't really with the people that voted for PF, but with the ones that didn't vote for Hawkwind - if one can extract some sense out of that)

If it helps, I know Hawkwind and still voted PF. LOL
then you're insane

No, I just think Floyd is better Space Rock.

Okay, poll's over.  The winner of Round 1 Divsion 24 of Battle of the Prog Bands is obviously Pink Floyd, with Hawkwind in second place.  Pink Floyd will now move onto Round 2.  See you at the next match of Battle of the Prog Bands!

Oh and after somewhat investigating Hawkwind-
Hawkwind = Better at making Psych/Space music.
Pink Floyd = Better Band

I love Pink Floyd, they're responsible for some of my favourite space rock tunes (Interstellar, Astronomy, Saucerful) but most of their music isn't my idea of space rock.

Eloy have a few great albums (I'm particularly fond of Eloy Live) but too much of it is like (non space rock) Floyd IMHO.

Hawkwind have been consistently producing quality space rock for 40 years (OK, I don't rate their albums since the mid 80s as highly as their earlier ones, but that's true of Floyd too) so they get my vote.

No, I just think Floyd is better Space Rock.

Almost everything Hawkwind has ever done has to do with space. Great songs about taking off on in a spaceship, landing upside down etc. They even make an effort defining space.

Space is deep:
Space is dark it is so endless
When you're lost it's so relentless
It is so big, it is small
Why does man try to act so tall

Is this the reason
Deep in our minds

It does not feel it does not die
Space is neither truth nor lies
Into the void we have to travel
To find the clue which will unravel

Is this the reason
Deep in our minds

The secret lies with our tomorrow
In each of us is a hidden sorrow
The path goes onward through the night
Beyond the realms of ancient light"

Black Corridor:
Space is infinite.
It is dark.
Space is neutral.
It is cold.

Stars occupy minute areas of space. They are clustered a few billion here. A few billion there. As if seeking consolation in numbers.
Space does not care.

Space does not threaten.
Space does not comfort.
It does not sleep; it does not wake; it does not dream; it does not hope; it does not fear; it does not love; it does not hate; it does not encourage any of these qualities.
Space cannot be measured. It cannot be angered, it cannot be placated. It cannot be summed up. Space is there.
Space is not large and it is not small. It does not live and it does not die. It does not offer truth and neither does it lie.
Space is a remorseless, senseless, impersonal fact.
Space is the absence of time and of matter

This poll is somewhat in the grey-zone with respects to what band is the most representative example of the space rock genre, and what band is preferred the most.

Hawkwind, and no doubt about it, are the >>TECHNICIÄNS ÖF SPÅCE<<. Pink floyd has a larger fan base.

I don't know if you're insane.
Even though your username suggests it (but your avatar notConfused) - I don't relate to you as a person. But to consider Pink Floyd a more representative example of space rock than Hawkwind is - is insane. But that's probably not what you mean. Please don't take any offence.

In any possible respect, I find Hawkwind to be soooo much better than Pink Floyd.

I love 'em all to be honest.

1.  Pink Floyd
2.  Eloy
3.  Ozric Tentacles
4.  Hawkwind

Floyd are way ahead, but the other 3 are very close and the order between them can change from day to day.
