Although not really a jazz album I really like 'Can't Buy A Thrill'.

But you'd never forgive me if I left Steely Dan out of a U.S. Jazz Fusion poll.

Yes, Pat Metheny and Dixie Dregs - the Unsung Heroes of U.S. Jazz Fusion - will both be making several appearances later in this series.

While I like various album in the list, Crossings is an easy choice for me. It is an album that helped to change the direction of my music interests and really helped to expand my music palette, and I think it's brilliant. And I love the whole Hancock released Mwandishi trilogy and related Mwandishi-players albums. I would say that it's a super easy choice, but Weather Report's I Sing the Body Electric also is one of my very favourite albums of its ilk. I also like Return to Forever, Anomaly, Lord of Lords, Caravanserai and On the Corner very much. Another very nice poll for my tastes.

Steely Dan. Some good choices in this poll. Weather Report, Miles Davis, Chicago and Santana are all very good albums. Return to Forever Light as a Feather has the classic track, Spain, but it's with the next studio release that they hit it out of the ballpark.

Santana's Caravanserai is my pick. McLuhan's Anomoly is my runnerup followed by Larry Coryell's Offering. That McLuhan album is hilarious and inventive to say the least. Even the album cover fits this description once you know the lyrics.

Hi, In my ears, these were more adventurous pop music, than fusion ... and while they had some small flashes here and there of some jazzy stuff, in the end, I never looked at them as fusion or anything related to jazz at all. And they were played on the FM radio dial a lot, not because of the jazzy touches, but because they were well recognized as rock bands. I kinda think of fusion as having a 50/50 rock jazz atmosphere, which we can see in the Return to Forever material. The rest, I probably would consider more jazz, than I would fusion for my tastes. But in those days, you can see that many bands were taking the hint from a lot of jazz folks, for their adventurous work, which was rather tough on radio ... the FM dial was strong within a rock context and the newer stuff, but the jazz side of it, was almost strictly on large cities, and it lost its touch the further you got away from them. The well versed academic locations, though, with a large number of students (usually past 25/30K students), normally had a good variety of the music ... not the same as the large city, but close. But, by the time you drove 3.5 hours to SLO from LA, you wouldn't hear a single jazz thing on the dial much.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

There are some very good Jazz/Rock and Fusion released in 77. Aja, Heavy Weather, Elegant Gypsy, Enigmatic Ocean, Watercolors, Moroccan Roll and the Dixie Dregs debut, Free Fall to name a few. Edit: I meant to say Elegant Gypsy and not Casino, which was released in 78. Both are great Al Di Meola albums, although I believe Elegant Gypsy to be the better album. Totally agree even though you say horrible things about Keith Emerson
Both ELP threads where I participated weren't posted in the "Prog Bands, Artists, and Genres Appreciation" subforum but in the "Prog Music Lounge," so I guess that some criticism is expected, not just praise.
It was nasty criticism, uncalled for.
