Is there 80's flavored synth prog in the style of synthwave? I'm not talking about progressive electronic or new wave prog-adjacent acts but geniune prog albums with 80's synth (think Jan Hammer, Depeche Mode, etc.).

Not as large, epic, or song-oriented as Synthwave, but an underappreciated '80s synth adventure for Mr. DiMeola (and featuring Jan H.)

Karfagen - Omni
Hasse Frgoberg Musical Campanion Moon Safari's last album all those have a strong 80's vibe but actual '80's synth prog' is hard to pin down. I can only think of Eloy and the Performance and Metromania album's but you must be aware of tose I assume? |

This is a really good album, and you can't beat guests like Tony Levin and Bill Bruford (one track), and Phil Collins (no vocals - one track). |

Křídlení by Synkopy was recorded in 1983 and a lot of "then-cutting edge" synthesizers were used on it.

I love this album. It's essentially Di Meola/Hammer (Jan's name should be on the cover). The "Sequencer" video is one of the most '80s things, ever! |

The 1983 album by Eddie Jobson & Zinc, The Green Album practically sounds like the blueprint for synthwave. There's a video for "Turn it Over" that has mysteriously vanished from YouTube. Early versions of "Nostalgia" and "Walking on Pastel" were performed during U.K.'s last tour.

I’m not 100% what you’re looking for (80s rooted synth genres can be confusing. There’s a lot of semantics.) I’ll say Genesis does some great things on Duke. Recently I’ve been checking out Peter Hammill’s 80s stuff. Here are some of my favorites:
There’s also Tears for Fears cover of Sea Song but that probably counts as “new wave prog adjacent.” Edited by Faul_McCartney - 9 hours 9 minutes ago at 20:36 |

If you think that it’s pretentious, you’ve been taken for a ride.
