Hi all, I've been working on a space rock thing for a while now under the name Ubermodo and I've finally got the album finished! Hurrah! The plan is to release it in some form - download or actual CD - before the year is out. Not entirely sure how to describe it; I was aiming for somewhere in the region of ozric tentacles, pink floyd, OSI and hawkwind. whether or not I entirely managed this i don't know but I'm quite pleased with the end result. Hope you like it too!

Ubermodo is the brain child of the musician, composer and producer Tim Lane. Tim started using the Ubermodo name in 2009 for the growing number of prog, psychedelic and space rock pieces he found himself composing. Ubermodo’s new album, “When the Twelve of Wands is in the Six of Nodes” is a collection of nine instrumentals ranging from the poundingly riff-mungous “Armed For Spacebear (Nuke ‘em from Orbit)” to the Space-blues of “Intergalactron Sleeps For a Thousand Years”. All tracks are awash with gurgling synth noises, soaring guitars and towering banks of keyboard-rich goodness, held together by meticulous production. Ubermodo provide the soundtrack to an internal psychedelic odyssey which will take out to the Carina Nebula via a Martian airship safari and back to earth with out listener even hav ing to leave the comfort of their favourite armchair.

Currently forty-seven years old, he has been writing and performing music since he was eighteen years old. He was brought up in a family which barely acknowledged popular music and grew up listening to Dave Brubeck, Frank Sinatra, Oscar Peterson, Grieg, Sibelius and Holst. As a young teenager three pieces of music changed his life; the first was a Shadows greatest hits album which introduced him to the electric guitar, the next was “Autobahn” by Kraftwerk which showed him the synthesiser and the last was “A Night at the Opera” by Queen, which is still his favourite album of all time.

He went on to discover a love of what we now call classic prog and heavy rock and then proceeded to spend the next thirty-odd years developing an extraordinarily broad and eclectic taste in music which has come to encompass, folk, country, and blues, funk, soul, experimental… just about everything.

Ubermodo definitely leans on the prog and psychedelic influences. He is a member of Norwich progressive band Stealing The Fire (who have released one album entitled “Hot Ice and Wondrous Strange Snow”), but for the last year he has been channelling his love of bands like Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, The Porcupine Tree and any number of krautrock bands into creating the lush space anthems that make up the first Ubermodo album “When the Twelve of Wands is in the Six of Nodes”. Lane composed and played the whole thing in his home studio (which is a rather grand name for a spare room with a laptop and some other bits of gear in it!).

So far Ubermodo has been a studio project but Lane plans to develop the idea into a touring band sooner rather than later.
