Ok, a quartet with Chick Corea as the keys man, the other 3 being free/avant jazzers...came up with this live double album from 1972. It would be the farthest reach of jazz/rock fusion (no guitar see) but it also touches base with avant prog in parts. I guess it shows the breadth of Coreas ability ...here he gets close, even though this came before, to Hermann Szobel and you wouldn't have thought he would be going Return To Forever soon afterwards, as next to this, as good as RTF are, their approach was a more simple and accessible sound.
If you can find a copy (mine was a junk shop £1 'suck it and see' purchase) and ECM have put out a 2CD remaster with added tracks, I would recommend it highly, especially if the far end of JR Fusion and the wilder jazz soundscapes of Soft Machine are in your wheelhouse.
