Topic: Your "Other Music" Posted: May 27 2007 at 19:44 |
Jazz.. but my love of prog has only increased, so I don't often have the time for 'other music'

I have said "other" because this is a one-vote poll and I listen to most of the stuff on the list with the exception of Blues which I cannot abide. (yes, even Gothic Rock and New Age - I'd never be without my Fields of the Nephilim or Michael Hedges albums)
/edit: the other "other" I listen to is whadayamacallit: Electronc from Warp Records artists such as Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher and Four Tet.

I have to say "other" because I listen many other music styles besides prog, specially afrojazz (Manu Dibango is amazing!), electronic (my favourite is James Holden), some jazz (Miles, Jaco, Bird and Stan), some hard rock... I also like very much Original Soundtracks (could be a genre???): Morricone, Horner, Herrmann, Zimmer, Badalamenti, Kilar, Trevor Jones, Serra and many others... I also like the work made by Emir Kusturica and Goran Bregovic for Kusturica's movies and with the No Smoking Orchestra (their live album in Buenos Aires is awsome!) and of course, lots of tango, specially Adriana Varela, Piazolla and Goyeneche... some brit pop, some industrial (I love NIN), soem spanish rock and pop...

I've been listening a lot to Grunge bands such as Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains recently. I've also been investigating some Emo (the more authentic stuff, not MCR and such things).

I voted "others" as a bit of an "all of the above" vote.
Other that rap & hip hop - awful rubbish IMO - I can listen to and enjoy something from many musical styles.
I go through cycles where I will listen to blues or jazz or heavy rock or classical rock or classical or whatever at different times.

Lots of other stuff. Most importantly folk-rock, underground rap, hard rock, IDM, indie rock, and the very occasional something else.

Hmm... classic rock, blues, hard rock...
But I'm in a very classical mindset right now. :)

80s new wave, classic rock, and goth.
With little bit of heavy metal, but the usual suspects nothing obscure: Judas Priest, metallica, AC/DC

Yes, I can relate. In the car I may turn up a little Ozzy or Judas Priest if one of their songs came on the radio, but I could never actually go and buy their music anymore. Lyrically its mostly juvenile rubbish and anytime Satan is mentioned it's more cheesy and silly rather than scary and threatening. Musically I can still get a bit of a rush off it, but that's only occasionally. Besides Prog, I like classical, opera and classic rock. I may put on Ravi Shankar from time to time too.
