Someone called us delusional boring old farts recently. It got me thinking. We love music here and celebrate a love of prog, which for some has lasted 20/30 yrs or more. What will we be listening to in our 70/80's?? In essence, what song will our friends and family be hearing when we make the final journey??
I'd like Entangled by Genesis or something similar. I'm sure you will all have better ideas that may inspire me.

Did you want to know what songs we were planning for the funeral ceremony?

I am not afraid of that at all. I listen to jazz, classical and ethnic music too. so there is a lot I can listen to. and I don't care at all what kind of new crap the pop industry will come up with. anything that will be really new and interesting will be underground for about half a year; then the music business will take over, and it will no longer be interesting. sad but true

A shot of me as High Priestess of Gaia during our fall festival. Ceterum censeo principiis obsta

Interesting choice of words in view of the topic.

Close to prog: Burning bridges by Japan. "It's all behind me now, the work is done."

That's a damn fine choice- I can just imagine Mick Box's chord progressions echoing around them hallowed halls

On wish forum have I seen this topic before, hmm...

Anyways, Los Endos by Genesis is the natural choice for me.

Yes

I'm pretty sure someone has done this a little while back, however, it is an interesting concept. I was thinking about his some time ago and while I could attempt a list now, I believe it would change as I think there will be some mind blowing music in the future as well.

Well heres my attempt at the prog songs I can think of at the moment.

Yes - Heart of the Sunrise and In the Presence of

KC - Walking on air

(maybe Opeths - Atonement but it might be a bit heavy)

then

Marillion - Fantastic place

and finish with

Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere  but not here

like I mean, they may as well have a mini concert seeing as how they turned up for the club sandwiches and all.

Prog is prog to me. When it was made has never been a factor.

I hope none. I don't want a funeral ceremony.

Id say the spirit carries on because of its mesage, but its a little too corney.

So im gonna go with Shine on you crazy diamond if i end up doing something amazing and productive with my life, and if i become a delusional old fart who sits on the cumputer in the basement of my parents house all day posting on this website for the rest of my life...I will play "who wants to live forever?" by Queen

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Probably Sea of Peas by the Superluminal Pachyderm.

What an interesting topic.

I'm in total alignment with Ed_The_Dead: Anathema's "One Last Goodbye" would be the ultimate way to sail on out of life...but then again, it's so incredibly moving and sad that I can hardly listen to it without breaking down while I'm healthy, so maybe I would opt for something just slightly less emotionally intense, like "Afterglow" by Genesis. Yeah, that's the one.

Or maybe Gorguts' 'Obscura' really really freaking loud!...might provide some shock therapy and keep that hear pumping a few more precious years...

NP: Arcturus - Sideshow Symphonies

As a side line to this topic, what song do you reckon would be most likely to wake the dead?

Something from Meshuggah or Sleepy Time Gorilla Museum perhaps.

Since I made the delusional old farts thread I think it's only fair I comment on this thread.

I have a rather sick sense of humor so it would be quite typical of me to insist that Trout Mask Replica be played in its entirety at my funeral, but I haven't given the matter any real thought.

"the Night We Died", - Magma

"Black Muddy River" - Grateful Dead

At my funeral I'd like Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" to be played.

Just kidding!  Or maybe "Wake Me Up When September Ends," because that would be cool to wake up after I die.

I can't believe I know any Green Day songs.  Yuck!

This was done before. I had 2 choices there but now I remember only one. This is "Starless" by King crimson. probably my all time favorite song and it will end the ceremony very quickly.

Maybe "Goodbye cruel world" ? that will be funny ! Or "The grand parade of lifeless packaging"

humm i'm still hesitating... something that is not too looong => i don't want my family to get bored during my funeral It's quite hard for me to choose as I really love sad songs, and i want a sad song for my funeral.

one for the lyrics (the music is also beautiful):
Wilco : How To Fight Loneliness

the rest for the music
A Silver Mt Zion : The Triumph Of Our Tired Eyes
Grandaddy : So You'll aim toward the sky
The Smashing Pumpkins : Blank Page

I know I had other ideas, but right now I can't remember.
