Subject: 12: Albums from the RYM chart that are also in PA

This currently is the latest poll in the curated/ collected from the Rate Your Music all-time and all-genres chart that is included in PA series as of today, which is now. Yesterday, which was not today but was now then, was the current most recent of these at that time, but now is not. What is the latest may change tomorrow, which on that now future day will be today. Now with the timing of these things explained, here is the list that is duplicated in the poll -- the numbers show the albums' rankings at Rate Your Music for the all-time and all-genres list.

The Mothers of Invention - We're Only in It for the Money (1165)
Laurie Anderson - United States Live (1708)* (replaced, so number is very out of order)
Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste (1382)
Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway (1412)
maudlin of the Well - Bath (1414)
Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Symphonic Suite AKIRA (1423)
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - I'm in Your Mind Fuzz (1437)
King Crimson - Radical Action (To Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind) (1439)
Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King (1444)
Genesis - A Trick of the Tail (1450)
Marillion - Clutching at Straws (1467)
Hawkwind - Space Ritual (1471)
Dead Can Dance - Spleen and Ideal (1485)
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth (1489)
Voivod - Nothingface (1492)
A Silver Mt. Zion - He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms... (1510)
Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra (1514)
Coil - Musick to Play in the Dark˛ (1517)
Eskaton - 4 Visions (1518)
Opeth - Deliverance (1526)
Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun (1528)
Crimson Glory - Transcendence (1538)
Bar Kokhba - Lucifer: Book of Angels Volume 10 (1542)
Los Jaivas - Los Jaivas [El indio] (1568)
Yes - Yessongs (1584)

My top four for this selection are (each could take my vote, and I may vote for one that doesn't get any votes or comments in the next day or two):
Eskaton's 4 Visions
Gentle Giant's Acquiring the Taste
Dead Can Dance's Spleen and Ideal
Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Symphonic Suite AKIRA

With Museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra, Bar Kokhba - Lucifer: Book of Angels Volume 10, and Hawkwind's Space Ritual up there too. And I do like Bath, A Trick of the Tail, Nothingface and Los Javas, and I may well have voted for all I've mentioned (the four above and eight or so below) as liking here over the years in various polls.

By the way, this is the first appearance of Marillion in the polls. and with MR's Zarathustra, this is the first appearance of an album included in RPI at this site (there are more to come over the following polls). This is the second appearance of Gentle Giant with what has been my favourite Gentle Giant album. And the first appearance for Geinoh Yamashirogumi (one I suggested to PA particularly for Osorezan, and is not as well known as many others). Various big hitters in this poll.

Please vote for a favourite and comment on some you like.

I generally don't vote for Live albums in these things, but Yessongs is exceptional...

Genesis > PT > Marillion > BG (Nightfall) after that.

Oops, I had not meant to include two of any act, but had two Blind Guardians. I will replace the first BG in this poll with Laurie Anderson - United States Live (1708) -- even though that comes quite a bit farther down the list.

Haha, that's true. I'm more of a The Notorious B.I.G. covers The Bee Gees greatest hits man.

Voted for Blind Guardian. Didn't want to miss the opportunity. I normally dislike Blind Guardian but NiME is just splendid!

^ I heard Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle-Earth ages ago. It reminded me of a power metal version of Queen.

A Trick of the Tail is my favorite Genesis album, so I'll pick that one. But Nightfall in Middle Earth is a close second Smile

Genesis will easily get the most votes so I'll pick Gentle Giant.

I opted to give it to Eskaton's 4 Visions, which was an early discovery of mine from PA (before I joined under this account).

I discovered the above tracks thanks to the mp3s hosted at this site, and it blew me away. I got the album quickly thereafter. Definitely Acquiring the Taste was also one of my very favourite albums at that time, and I still love it. I could have voted for those or Dead Can Dance or Geinoh Yamashirogumi. I almost went with the Dead Can Dance album... All loved by me.

Yessongs has been my go to album for decades now. I prefer the more raw sound of it to the clinically sterile (yet clean) studio recordings of the same era. The performances are energetic and lively. It also serves as a virtual best of collection. Mention also goes out to Genesis, Hawkwind, and Marillion.

I haven't followed all episodes of this poll séries, but here's a bunch of great albums. Difficult to single out one of these favourites of mine:

The Mothers of Invention - We're Only in It for the Money
Laurie Anderson - United States Live
King Crimson - Radical Action (To Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind)
Marillion - Clutching at Straws
Hawkwind - Space Ritual
Dead Can Dance - Spleen and Ideal
A Silver Mt. Zion - He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms...
Yes - Yessongs

Maybe I should go with the latter to stay true to my proggie nostalgic self, but Laurie Anderson's United States Live is the most audacious and original - and funny - of all these, so I vote for Laurie.

Eskaton just ahead of the definitive Hawkwind album and one of the best live albums ever.

Pretty strong selection. Eskaton is my winner, but a good number come close. I have one album by Geinoh Yamashirogumi and I absolutely love it, but that's not the one in the poll. Need to check out more.
