Yes, that's definitely one Gene Hackman movie I need to watch again, especially now it's available to view on YouTube. Thumbs Up

Another vote for The Conversation. I didn't think I could do it, but people walked right past me and thought I was a cheeseburger.

Hi,

Sorry that I can not say I have a favorite here, but I was brought up in the age of the Actor's Studio, the RSC and the NT (in England) and even the National Theater in France, and then, the free form stuff that added so much to what became "krautrock".

While there is not a whole lot to dislike, Gene was a fine actor, though not one for my tastes ... maybe if he had some some more stage so we could see some different chops, it might have helped my understanding of it, and it is the same idea for me with Clint Eastwood.

I thought, once in a while, that this was the era of the big name and film studio things, and I can't help thinking that the acting is not as strong ... though I don't think that Gene did not try hard, or do his best ... in that sense he is very good.

RIP ... not the greatest but an actor nonetheless.

Depending on my mood that day, I might have voted for The Hunting Party...a wild but far from classic western vignette, with Hackman playing a villain with a cause, validated by his own reason for being.
Or French Connection if he wanted to kick the world (once again) or Cisko Pike if the humor was more relaxed, bohemian, where Hackman does not hesitate once to exceed the limits of correctness and harass the good Kris Cristopherson with his girlfriend Karen Black.
The conversation did involve auteur cinema and something oppressive, the conspiracy theory that occasionally comes back to haunt us... but with enough poetry to question the origins of a homeless person and how he ended up on the streets when he once had a mother and a father.
Night Moves, directed by Arthur Penn if I wanted some film noir... or The Domino Principle with the conspiracy theory on the surface.
But I chose Prime Cut... a strange 70s action movie, politically incorrect (thank God) because Sissy Spacek says very sinful things to Lee Marvin at a restaurant table, does voice impressions, making everyone uncomfortable more than a decade before Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally. And Gene Hackman's name is Mary Ann... 1972... nothing could go wrong.
Bite the Bullet, from 1975, is another great western with Candice Bergen, directed by Richard Brooks, which was left out of the poll, and it's worth it!
I have to see A Bridge Too Far...
