With his recent passing, I've looked back at the long list of albums he participated in as either producer or engineer. The 7 albums to choose from are among my personal favorites, but I know there are many others that have popular followings, so I've also included the ever-popular "Other" option. RTB trivia: the final album he produced (unless someone can show me otherwise) was Heaven and Earth (2014) by Yes. |

From the list my fave is The Cars' self-titled, but I did vote other for The Cars' Candy-O. I have a sentimental attachment to that album. ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me. |

Hi, I might want to see if Paul is willing to post a complete list, so the choices and ideas are better represented. I think Queen's album deserves the mention, but I'm not sure it is the only one! Other albums that we know well and appreciate! (Not complete btw) Nazareth - Nazareth Black Widow - Sacrifice Hawkwind - Hall of the Mountain Grill Man - Rhinos, Winos and Lunatics Be-Bop Deluxe - Futurama Ian Hunter - Overnight Angels The Cars - The Cars Journey - Infinity (and then Evolution the next year) Foreigner - Head Games Cheap Trick - One on One Motley Crue - Too Fast for Love East of Eden - East of Eden He also worked with many others not listed here like Guns N'Roses, Alice Cooper, Pilot, Ozzy Osborne, Devo, The Stranglers, Dusty Springfield and others. Hawkwind's album is fantastic and side 1 of that LP was a massive treat and plays well all the way through. Man's album is already the decline of the band. They could not get enough appreciation for their playing in the USA ... and it continued as a band under the radar until the end, but all of the albums prior to this one, are excellent and worth having! ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Head Games was rather a disappointment after the first two albums.... but still much better than that horrendous (but ultra-successful) 4 coming up. ------------- let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

While there is some great stuff on the first two Foreigner albums, I've always thought Head Games was their all-around best. The performances and RTB's production are flawless, and there's no filler. Fully agree that the band fell off a cliff with 4, and they've never been the same since. The 1980s strike again! |

Hi, I think the death of the independent FM stations in America really hurt the bands that had a lot of originality in their work, and all of a sudden it seemed like they had to copy themselves in order for the public to buy the albums, specially as the ability to have it heard anew was not there anymore. The corporatization of the FM stations in America by 1980, was one of the saddest events, but it specified that Corporate America did not want individuals and liberals with IDEAS on the air ... and all of them became classic rock which they still are today or some type of progrock stations like the one in Portland that you could easily say is all AI and copy of a copy of a copy and MOS play lists ... you can tell it is owned by a corporation that owns a lot of music! ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! | ''Other''. Be Bop Deluxe - Futurama is a good one (thanks Pedro!) but I also like Lone Star's debut album. There were a good early example of 'Heavy Prog' but were a bit misunderstood perhaps and admittedly do sound like a Led Zep rip off band at times (although so did Rush in the early days!). Pity they didn't carry on a bit longer. |

Hi, It wasn't as bad as MAN, who ended up on a book "Man On The Road To Nowhere" by Deke Leonard ... by far one of the saddest things I have ever read, but it played to the end! I think Foreigner tried to play up to their fame and fortune, and it was like luck doesn't come around twice! Roy has some interesting work, however, I'm not sure that he was that great, otherwise, though he made Queen sound really good, however, I think that what made Queen special was that Freddie had the touch and the feel, and he made sure it showed up ... no one, behind the knobs would be able to see that as their concentration would be on levels and everyone in the band, not just one person! And I think that between Freddie and Brian they gave him more material to work with than anyone could possibly ever have seen or worked on! Of that small list, my favorite would be the Side One (LP) of that Hawkwind album ... I still play it on the car a lot ... it's just such a treat and the work by Simon House is really well showcased, which I think was not a Hawkwind idea (DAve's anyway) but it was made to sound so good and beautiful that it would be bad if it had been taken down replaced by more of Dave's same song as last week's! ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Hi, This, pretty much shows how the recording industry had some a long way since Abbey Road and their talents for classical music during the early days of the 1960's ... and how much rock music changed the equation of how to record something, that was not just a microphone sitting at the front picking up two or three musicians at the same time. By the time we heard DSOTM, we knew that the ability to control in the studio while recording had changed ... already this was not as original or creative as it had been in the Abbey Road days of the last Beatles album! But it made an enduring feeling, due, (likely) to the publicity of their shows that were a treat that no one offered at the time, though some tried ... with just the music, but not succeed as well. PF added something to the experience that 9 out of 10 bands did not have at all ... a presentation. Sadly it could only last a few years before it all died down and now we get some pyromania that has nothing to do with the music whatsoever! Not to mention the loudness! And we think the crap is God's substance without the words! ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about!
