mostly referring to bands/artists not listed as any sort of prog/prog related genre or subgenre.

In this context, I lean towards things such as Bad Brains (I Against I, Quickness). Tons of odd meters and angular chord changes. I love it.

A Night at the Opera by Queen does qualify, I guess.

Most 70s Queen does IMO.

Firstly, under Jazz/Rock Fusion or Prog Folk, We need to add Joni Mitchell to our website. Further, based on “Songs from the Big Chair” and “Goodbye Yellowbrick Road,” Tears for Fears and Elton John are “prog related.”

^ another band called Quill.
Third one for me, there's a stoner rock band and then there's the ELP clone (which is still surprisingly good).

Here's a comprehensive list of releases that might range somewhere between non-prog and prog:

(according to AP voters and not filtered by ProgArchives listing or genre, limited to one release per artist)

Off the top of my head I'd say 'The Original Soundtrack' and 'How Dare You' by 10cc are two excellent Art Rock albums with definite proggy elements.

And then, Godley & Creme's first 3 albums (Consequences, L, and Freeze Frame) would also fall into the prog category, IMO...

"Swords and Knives" from Tears for Fears's The Seeds of Love album sounds like Trevor Rabin-era Yes!

My pick for a "prog-ish" album by a non-prog band would be Circle of Love by the Steve Miller Band, with its bizarre side-long "everything but the kitchen sink" track, "Macho City".

I agree with The Tubes, Iron Maiden and the Police. I don't know the others. I haven't heard that particular Elbow but their first one was a bit proggy.

I would say some albums by the Who, Led Zeppelin, Styx and Journey (not just the first three). Also Santana and Steely Dan.

I can't think of many others off the top of my head but I know they are out there. Maybe the second Jane's Addiction album and Angel Dusted by Faith No More.

The thing is most of the progish stuff is under prog-related or crossover prog, so if you leave that aside it's hard to find. You have stuff like Queen, Radiohead, Moody Blues, Iron Maiden, etc that qualifies.

I think some Megadeth stuff like "Rust in Piece" would fit the bill.

For some reason, Metallica is in the website but not Megadeth when they have the same style. Logical thing would be either both are or none is.
