On Eight we look at the years 1968, 1978 and 1988. One vote. I'm leaning towards Pink Floyd, Rush or Dark.

Omg lots to love here... I got a top three, but I'm not sure I can vote for one of them over the two others. How can I, when they create such different art?

National Health- National Health
Dead Can Dance-The Serpent's Egg
Talk Talk-Spirit Of Eden

-all amazing too:

Pink Floyd-A Saucerful Of Secrets
Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention-We're Only In It For The Money
Miles Davis Quintet-Nefertiti
The Moody Blues-In Search Of The Lost Chord

I went with Dead Can Dance's Serpent Egg according to my whim of the moment, but there are many favourites of mine here that easily could have got my vote. A Saucerful of Secrets, Nefertiti, National Health, Anabelas and Cyclone, A Little Man and a House... and Spirit of Eden are some other favourites. i really like that moody Blues album, the Wihite Album and Rush's Hemispheres has been the important Rush album to me (but I have not listened to Rush much in decades). Suffice to say, a great list for my tastes. Incidentally, you have what I have listed as my top three albums for 1988 in this poll, and various other of my most particular faves of their respective years.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

A Saucerful of Secrets. Thanks to this forum I'm finally learning how to count.

Hemispheres > TD > Moodies > PF > Genesis

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

RRUUSSHH, Genesis, Beatles, National Health.

I've just listened (tripped effectively) to a cover of Set The Control for the Heart of the Sun. Saucerful of Secrets is my choice without even reading the other titles.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I must throw a bone to the underrated and oft-maligned Cyclone.

Woah! I love Cyclone, too, but it's up against The Spirit of Eden, National Health, Cardiacs (too lazy to type the title), Saucerful of Secrets, Anabelas, Serpent's Egg and more good stuff...

I vote for Talk Talk but a lot of these are voteworthy.

Maiden (they were a proper blokes band although why I liked them then is unclear lol)

I ended up voting for Spirit of Eden a well. I saw review at RYM opening like this "intense, yet calming. Emotionally draining, yet comforting" - and I can relate to all of that. Pure and cleansing in a sense. Not depressing all to me. But I can understand why some experience it that way. To me it's primarely uplifting.

1988 is an interesting year, not deep at all but there are some fine releases to pick from. I also like The Last LP by Faust. Death In A Blue Lake by When, as well as Nuova Era's l'Ultime Viaggio.
I went with Dark, it's one I gave 5 stars to and they were a multi national band based in Germany. David Torn guests on guitar and looping, as well as L Shankar on double violin. A challenging album.
