I have to go with Young Sheldon. BBT has some great jokes, but it is simply a vehicle for delivering punchlines. Very little grabs you on any deeper level. By contrast, Young S is a layered comedy with drama that succeeds far more than most current sitcoms on free TV. I'm most impressed with the young actors and how well they nail their roles, particularly Sheldon and Missy. I also thought they handled the death of George with more depth than most sitcoms would. My wife and I watched both.... we enjoyed BBT more. We thought YS was too focused on the kid even though that was the point of the show. BBT had 'better writing' imho as to jokes and situations and one could do more with all the adult themes and conflicts. This is not taking anythng away from YS which was a great show. ------------- One does nothing yet nothing is left undone. Haquin |

Can’t vote. Have watched many episodes of BBT, because for some inexplicable reason the rest of my family liked it, but I think I maybe laughed once. If you don’t like the characters….. Never watched the spin-off ------------- Heaven is waiting but waiting is Hell |

I find it hard to vote, as BBT had much more that I liked or made me laugh, but also much more that annoyed me. (I know maybe 90% of BBT and something around two series of YS.) At the end I'd rate both as good but not excellent. ------------- I make typos so you see I'm not a machine, but I may be a machine pretending to not be a machine. |

I decided to not vote because I had not seen enough of Young Sheldon to form a good opinion of it. I have seen the entire BBT series. One thing I'd like to point out is that I don't think BBT was just a vehicle for funny jokes. There was a lot of social commentary you could extract from this show even though it was mostly under the surface: conflict between levels of intelligence showing disparaging moments and ignorance from both sides of this dynamic; male domination in the sciences; social awkwardness and introvertedness; male-female relationships; parent-child relationships (both good and bad); hints of gender spectrum; strong female characters; religion/science divide; ego psychology; personalities that grew over time and changed due to the relationships that shaped them; and probably others I've missed. Maybe all of this was overwhelmed by the sheer humor of the series, but it connected with me on more levels than just laughing. ------------- ---------- i'm shopping for a new oil-cured sinus bag that's a happy bag of lettuce this car smells like cartilage nothing beats a good video about fractions |

That's a fair point you make and it's cool they were juicing the script with hidden meaning or, at least, things I wasn't really picking up on. Another thing I struggle with while watching BBT is the laugh track. I have the same problem with most comedies that go that route. It feels so obnoxious to me now in comparison to shows that don't feel the need to rely on that (Young Sheldon, Wonder Years, Curb, Parks and Rec, The Office, even some of MASH).
