This must have been done before; what are progressive rock artists whom you like everything of-including material that isn't really progressive rock?
Now it's a no brainer when it is an artist who recorded just one or two albums, but what about ones that recorded a whole slew of records, and you dig them all? [let's leave bootlegs out of it; they are illegal, so]

For me, there are not many that fit that category, but those that do are:

Gentle Giant-Even their later less progressive rock records I like-their whole catalogue is appealing to me

Atomic Rooster-a band that went through many personnel changes, well, I listen to all of their different phases and like everything they recorded no matter how different they may sound...

Dzyan-this band had four releases and each one is kind of unique, but I like them all considering that....

Who qualifies for you?

None.

Unless you're talking about Jimi Hendrix, Nick Drake or the Doors who, because of untimely deaths, didn't have time to release albums beyond their peak.

Prog? Definitely none. Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Jethro Tull, ELP, King Crimson, etc., all released sub-par albums the further they went after a decade (or less) of brilliance.

Pink Floyd. Even The Endless River has its good moments.

Camel if it wasn't for The Single Factor and Dust and Dreams
Yes if it wasn't for the last years
Magma if it wasn't for Mercy (but I don't think it's that bad)
Reneissance if it wasn't for Camera Camera and the other one I don't remember even the title

Thinking better, I can't find anything that I dislike in Eloy
Universal Totem Orchestra has only four albums but all excellent

Then there's a huge number of artists who are very consistent. I think to Claudio Milano and Nichelodeon, Quintorigo and John De Leo...

but I stop here. Too many are popping out in my mind

Yeah, that's a tall, tall order for bands with a long career.

Even including non-prog, my fave LZ, I think 'In Through the Out Door' blows.

I'm really gonna have to put on the thinking cap for this.

What, not Triumvirate?? Heh!!

Mine would include:

a) Flash - they came & went in a flash, only three studio LPs and a few boots...

b) Captain Beyond (prog related) - I'm a big fan of Rhino, RIP!

c) Mahavishnu Orchestra - even their weaker efforts were sublime in my book!

d) Return to Forever - same!!   From their earliest days to the end, amazing stuff.

Anekdoten and One Shot are the only two I can think of right now. But then again both have released only seven or eight and that's including the live records.

I maintain that King Crimson has never released a truly bad album, though they have a couple subpar ones. Pink Floyd comes close but their subpar albums are much lower so I'm not sure I'd give it to them.

Agreed. KC my personal favorite dropped a few bombs. One I find to be unlistenable even. Yes genesis Elp all have a stinker or two.   The doors have no bad records, true, in my opinion as well.   I just agree here. Although I can listen to the large discography of Pink Floyd and have few complaints, there are a couple of albums I don’t like . Same with Procol Harum.

Glass Hammer perhaps. Some of their stuff can be a bit Meh but I wouldn't avoid anything they have done and am an enthusiastic advocate for their 'pop' record Three Cheers For The Broken Hearted.

Of the classic era bands Camel perhaps come the closest as stated but unfortunately there is the Single Factor.

VDGG also possibly as I've yet to hear anything by them I dislike.

perfect all the way though, uh? very unlikely for long-standing bands with many albums.

Circus (Swiss) and their Blue Motion afterthought. (only 5 albums)
Out Of Focus (three historical releases and three posthumous archives) and their 80's afterthought Kontrast

How do you figure??

Electric Silence and Time Machine are very similer to my ears.
Didn't know they has an archival live release, thx. Will look for it.

Hmmm. I like bands that try out something new regularly, and then they easily put out something that I don't like a lot.

Anyway, I consider myself fan, and like every album of North Sea Radio Orchestra, Sonar, Kong. Of those already named Univers Zero, Cardiacs, Magma qualify. With Camel it depends on how high the bar is. I find all their albums enjoyable to some extent (yes, even Single Factor) but there are clearly weaker ones. This probably applies to a number of bands. Art Zoyd are all great other than the Pure Noise album, which is a bit of a joke.

Unfortunately I don't quite feel that way. Rush have a better track record than most and may even be my favorite band but they have a few albums I'm not that fond of such as Snakes and Arrows, Test for Echo and especially Vapor Trails. I wouldn't even say Roll The Bones is very good but I like it anyway. Most of everything else they did is pretty top notch or close to it.

If we broaden the margins to include hard rock and metal, I cannot agree more! The Elves/Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, his own band Dio, Heaven and Hell, and his guest appearances (especially on Kerry Livgren's Seeds of Change)...Ronnie was a singer's singer and the consummate frontman with a voice like no other.

Zombi- I listened to the 2024 remix of Cosmos yesterday , and just wow! Checking out their other material as of now that is available to stream. Love that drumming. That is how drumming should be imo.

Goblin don't know enough.

Vangelis - maybe Alexander was just too much of a step down for me and honestly I'm not a big fan of The City even though I know it's a popular Vangelis album.

It really does. I've thought about this for a bit now, and can only come up with bands or artists with quite a limited discography. I like or love every album by Talk Talk, Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Kosmischer Läufer, but they only released five each - and that's too few to really count. It seems those with more than five releases, there's always that one album (well, often quite a few really) that I do not genuinely care for.

Edit: while writing I checked, and there's not an album I do not like among Kraftwerk's ten album strong studio albums. Love everything from their 1970 self-titled debut - up to 1986' Electric Cafe, and really like 2003's Tour de France Soundtracks.

I've been thinking about this and struggling tbh. When I think of bands I like there always to be a dodgy album somewhere in their output. Then I had a revelation. The Tangent - I really do love every album they've done - in fact their lowest scoring album here is 3.71, so that reflects my opimion.
