I promised to be off, but there have been some loose ends. I would like to do another for the 2000s. Since I am not gone completely for now and have some free time, I decided to take 20 of my usual suspects favourite studio albums from 1996 to 1999, and then add five very popular, high rated albums at PA that I have not been into for more variety. Note: I do prefer Long Season off the 1998 Fishmans concert, but opted to stick with studio albums, and I love the Portishead live, and Swans live from this period. There is no multiple choice and no "none of the above" or "other" option. Please vote for just one album even if you like more than that. And some of these are not in PA; whatever. And while there is no "other" poll option, feel free to mention as many of your favourites from these years as you like. There are many more that I like (both acts and various other albums by listed choices) from the period than the first 20 I listed.
Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album (1996) Art Zoyd - Häxan (1997) Björk - Homogenic (1997) Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children (1998) Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (1999) Cardiacs - Sing to God (1996) Fishmans - Long Season (1996) The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin (1999) Godspeed You Black Emperor! - F#A# (1997) Mercury Rev - Deserter's Songs (1998) Mr. Bungle - California (1999) The Necks - Hanging Gardens (1999) Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998) Portishead - Portishead (1997) Pram - North Pole Radio Station (1998) Radiohead - OK Computer (1997) Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun (1999) Stereolab - Dots and Loops (1997) Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind (1996) Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die (1996) Arena - The Visitor (1998) Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle (1998) Dream Theater - Metropolis Part 2 - Scenes From a Memory (1999) The Flower Kings - Stardust We Are (1997) Pendragon - The Masquerade Overture (1996)
------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

OK Computer kind of stands out from the rest of the field, IMO...

I voted for Arena's The Visitor because that's the last one of theirs I really like.

Oh my... so far I have voted for these four:
The Necks - Hanging Gardens Godspeed You Black Emperor! - F#A# Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die Stereolab - Dots and Loops
-but for that fifth vote I have think for a while before I decide:
Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun Mr. Bungle - California Portishead - Portishead Radiohead - OK Computer Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
-I suppose it's either the 4th, 5th or the 6th option.
Edit: I though I had five options, so I started with F#A# - that's fine, but if I had read properly the one exclusive vote would have gone to Hanging Gardens:)

Ayreon, slightly ahead of DT and Arena. And Radiohead, that’s a class album!

Boys For Pele From the Choirgirl Hotel Tidal Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (a couple months from 1996 but too good not to mention)
Not prog? If Bjork and Tori are here, I'm comfortable mentioning the other two albums.

Just one eh? How can anybody do that?
Although actually I realise that this is much easier than "vote for five" here, because Häxan wins my vote, and then there'd be loads and loads of candidates for the further four votes and I don't have to agonise about this.
Anyway welcome Necks to PA even if you can't quite beat Art Zoyd.

Three standout for me here. Art Zoyd, Godspeed and The Flaming Lips. Went with the latter tonight. I do like that Mercury Rev record, and I have that Neutral Milk Hotel album but I don't know if I've played it yet.

And as a side note, I will never play OK Computer again. So melancholic, and it will always be associated with hearing news that broke me back in 1998. I actually stopped playing it because I knew it would be ruined for me. Too late.
