On July 26th, 2025, the Argentine band Pez, which has known how to change genres and lineup from album to album, performed to commemorate their 2007 album, Los Orfebres. There, they cultivated Progressive Rock, Jazz-Rock, Funk, and Psychedelia. Just as it was recorded, without pauses and in real time, the entire album took a lot of practice, as it contains truly complex parts. Ariel Sanzo, their singer and guitarist, has a powerful and unique guitar sound that imposes presence and style, and stands out. The concert was at the Niceto Club in Buenos Aires, and since I was next to the stage, I was able to see and hear everything from a privileged perspective. At times, the dialogue between the keyboard and the guitar and drums, which were gradually playing out towards the margins, reminded me of the best Van der Graaf. They then embarked on the premiere of a rather epic and lengthy track that will be featured on their new album, titled "De Buenos Aires," which explores jazz rock alongside tango in the style of Astor Piazzolla. They invited a bandoneon player friend to play the song. The new melodies are truly welcome, especially because they inaugurate a new era in the band, where they will delve deeply into complex compositions, as they have done on albums like "Convivencia Sagrada" (2001), "El Sol Atrás Del Sol" (2002), "Folkllore" (2004), and "Hoy" (2006). Ariel spoke only a few words, as if he felt an impulse he needed to exorcise through playing. Then, at the end, some classics from all eras, from his... 31-year career!
