Of all the 'bigger' bands discussed on this site- which of them do you not own a single album?
For me its these artists:
VDGG
King Crimson
ELP
could very well be a shocking thread. Do you have the guts to post?

Dream Theater
Tool
Van Der Graaf Generator
Camel
Gentle Giant
and many others. VDGG and GG have been on my to buy list for so long that I'll probably get some of their albums soon.

Perhaps instead of simply listing the bands (which is always rather dull), you could say why you don't have any.

I thought about that- but then I assumed it would turn into another hate thread- which I want to avoid.

I don't have anything from ELP but I live it well. However I regret to have big progressive pop in my collection as Genesis, Kansas, Alan Parson and a few others...one reason: all these bands are too mainstream and FM for my ears.

EDIT: just looked in the top 100... I've got nothing by Arena, Liquid Tension Experiment and Wishbone Ash. First two I don't give a flying rat's ass about, but the latter is a disappointing mistake that needs to be corrected sometime in the future.

I would like to exclude them from my collection but I've got some vinyls that I want to keep just for the cover sometimes ("relayer" by Yes for instance or "point of no return" by Kansas)

Genesis - I've heard "Selling England by the pound" and "Foxtrot" but they didn't grab me.
ELP - I don't know... They just don't seem attractive to me.
Also, I just started to explore the realm of Italian prog.
As for VDGG the four albums of theirs I've got are not original...

Off hand, I can't think of many 'big' artists I don't own albums by. The one genre that doesn't appeal to me at least based on what I've heard is 'RIO', but Zappa and Beefheart are classed under this genre and I love their work. I don't have anything from the 'indo prog' and 'Zeuhl' sections, for no real reason other than I've not heard them. I do own a Quintessence compilation though....Also, I guess my 'prog metal' section is somewhat under-represented. I actually don't mind that genre as long as the metal doesn't usurp the prog- for example, I disliked Symphony X's 'the Odyssey' but loved 'The Divine Wings Of Tragedy'.

The prog-metal I don't own (primarily Opeth and Pain of Salvation) is a matter of priorities: there are other prog albums I devote my meager discretionary funds to.

The Beatles - prog or not, can't stand them!
Neo prog like IQ, Arena, Pendragon. Considered getting Dark Matter and The Seventh House at one point, but wasn't sure if it was worth it.
Kansas - never checked 'em out really.
Queen - actually had most of their albums at one point, they were my favourite band too. Don't have any now. The only one I still like is Sheer Heart Attack, might still pick it up, but no interest beyond that one.

Can't stand The Beatles, huh. Are you seeing somebody about that?
Seriously though, statements like this have always made me confused. I can see them not being a favorite, but such negative attitudes amaze me.
So, on to the topic. There are some I don't own because they are hard to find, and others because I am not familiar with them yet. I will focus on the ones I don't want to own.
All Prog Metal - at least until I hear some I like.
Hogarth Marillion - for obvious reasons.
Kansas - Good band, just not that interested in them.
Saga - There is some fun stuff there, but not enough to spend money on.
Anthony Phillips - a bit dull to me.
Pendragon - what I've heard doesn't impress me too much
The Mars Volta - No appeal for me
Those are the ones I could think of. There may be others.

I don't own any albums by Frank Zappa(shame!) or Supertramp, even though I really like them both, I also don't own any albums by Camel, Gentle Giant or Van der Graff Generator, which is sad, because I seem to hover in the Symphonic/Art Rock area, listening mostly to bands like Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, ELP, Rush, Supertramp, Kansas, and my Psychedelic band is Pink Floyd, and my Folk band is Jethro Tull. I also don't own any Krautrock albums, but I want to, especially by Faust and Kraftwerk. Don't own any Experimental albums either, although I liked what I heard of Flying Saucer Attack and Atomic Rooster. Don't own any Dream Theater albums either. There's a lot of stuff I don't have. Time to go to the record shop again!

Far too many to mention... To cut a long story short, I don't own any Krautrock, RIO, Indo-Prog or Electronic. As to Experimental-PostRock, I only have one GSYBE! album in MP3 format. I suppose I'm more a classic prog lover, being heavily into Symphonic, Jazz-Rock, Canterbury and Art Rock. I'm slowly getting more into Prog-Metal too, though I'm more of a classic hard rock/heavy metal person.

Seriously though, statements like this have always made me confused. I can see them not being a favorite, but such negative attitudes amaze me.

Haha nope!
Not sure why you call it having a "negative attitude" though. It's my opinion, and I truly cannot stand their music. If I said anything else, I'd be lying. I didn't say they were bad, tons of people love them, but just not my cup of tea at all.

The biggest bands i miss completely from top 100 are Tool and the Mars Volta. I've heard Lateralus a few times but didn't like it too much then. I hardly know TMV (heard them one or two times or so).

Until recently I didn't own a single Genesis album and I've gone and bought "Selling England By The Pound" but have yet to listen to it.
Artists I don't own anything by:
Pink Floyd (my brother is a huge Floyd fan, so I know a lot of their output) Yes (not sure why...) Gentle Giant (again, not sure why...) Dream Theater (don't plan to get any after hearing the samples, ewww!) Kansas Marillion and other neo-prog (except Discipline (who aren't neo!) and one Pendragon album) Focus Shadow Gallery
I have a few albums as MP3s of bands I really don't have interest in buying, such as Rush.

The recent(ish) decca/deram remasters are very reasonably priced in the UK (£6/7 usually) and are superb releases with great notes and bonus tracks to boot! Try and see if German amazon has them. I'd be surprised if they didn't.
And Focus are superb. No prog collection should be without Hamburger Concerto - FACT.

TP, my HMV only ever has ItLoGaP and never anything else. I have other Caravan albums on my computer, but I want the remasters... I guess I'll have to order them.
I also must get some Focus!

Again, amazon has the lot. You can't expect to rely on HMV for prog. In fact, don't rely on them at all. They're rubbish. Anyway, Gentle Giant is more important than Caravan.

Well... last year in HMV (or Virgin...) they had the GG remasters and also had Giles, Giles and Fripp's Brondesbury Tapes and for some reason I didn't buy them... I wish I had, as they no longer have them.
I plan to get "In A Glass House" sometime soon, David!

That's fair. Being such a huge fan, it's hard for me to imagine anyone not liking them to some degree. I guess it was the "can't stand" that struck me as a bit negative. Now, I have actually heard people say that they suck. That's the kind of thing that I find just insane. Oh well.

That's because they "progressed" to other things and again and again. They're more prog than VDGG.
