How can somebody have rated Threshold's Dead reckoing with a 1 if the album is not out yet and no music is available???? And most of all, how can that rating COUNT???? It's very easy to act like a child and go submit a rating against a band you hate without actually facing the music, without giving your name... i could submit ratings for a lot of bands I don't like just to see their ratings go down, but I care as to say WHY. This is unacceptable. Can somebody explain this to me??/

I just checked... there's no option for downloading anything neither from thresh.net nor from nuclearblast.de, so whoever submitted that rating has either an illegal download or is just a musical-brat.

???? No, I haven't seen any other one. Think a misunderstandment has taken place.
But now that you mention this, how come some album with just ONE review have much different scores that that lone review? I didn't know (until now) that you could submit just a rating with no review.

well IMO adding the album is like to tell you that the artist will release that album. it's actually fine as long as people submit the reviews after the album released, regardless they already heard the album

It would be good if the coming album is added to the archives, but reviewing be not possible until it's finally released. That way we get rid of these "reviews" that consist of a rating and nothing else (and usually an extreme rating: either a 5 or a 1, which shows the amount of thinking the "reviewer" put into it).
Yes, the case with Scarsick is the worst. At least we have now ONE collaborator review. I don't know why but I tend to trust these more. But anyway, it's not good that the album isn't even out yet and we have more than 10 reviews, and many of them more than 2 months old! Well, this topic was discussed somewhere else and there's no hope for a change in policy, so I guess there isn't any point to continue the analysis.

Ah, but that was Liquid Len, the one who wrote that Rush only released a good album... their first. I shouted for Tony in that thread, and had to threaten to close it when he got aggressive towards another member - not that he took any notice, of course. If he is a PR and behaves in such a way, I think he should probably be noticed that this will only lead to a demotion.

It's a prognose rather than a rating i presume, maybe one of the band mates thinks it's a dud and wanted to give us distant early warning.
Or the reason it isn't heard is because Morse doesn't think it's good enough to be released (or leaked), so that could account for the fact it hasn't leaked yet, and some reviewer understood that possibility and considered a pre-emptive strike to be in order.
Anyway, can be deleted if you asked me.

Ahh good times in that thread
But anyways, how can somebody be a prog reviewer and still be posting ratings without reviews? Shuldnt prog reviwers be the ones to write reviews, seeing as how they have the honor of getting their reviews placed at the top of the page to be read by everyone? Seems to me like somebody got a wrongful promotion...

Yikes. I think we've come across this Beatle one-starrer before, but he's given Kate Bush one star as well. I'm sorry, but he must be taken out and shot immediately! He can't honestly say a lot of thought went into those reviews. Is there an ELO fan here who thinks all those albums honestly deserve 5 stars?

This REALLY gets my goat,There were LOADS before the last Pendragon album was released these fold fall into one of three categories
1. An internet album thief (downloaded it illegally from some scuzzy site)
2.An out & out liar (not heard it but want to either be first to hate it or first to love it
3.A band member (Why not have "Band Member Reviews" so this is possible and stand out fromt the trolls?
If some one has an advance copy for another reason, then they should say so in their review.
It screws up the overall ratings for ever.

I find inconceivable to give star reviews without reviewing them, essentially when the majority of persons that do that probably never will review it, after all whats the point of giving a star rating and not had the review with his/her opinion? Really darn stupid if you ask me, its like a monkey throwing up his feces and not getting any person in the process, its not funny if the monkey doesnt hit anyone!!!

It's usually because the person concerned feels their command of English is not sufficient to allow them to compose a review.

I agree 100%. But for those of us who have reviewed albums and hope to achieve PR status and had a couple reviews axed and ratings left, can we re-submit as to not have any portfolio blanks?

I've made the mistake a rating a few before I did the review and then I found out that if I go back later and review, it doesn't show up the latest reviews sections, which sucks if you're trying to let people know about an obscure album.
I am reformed and will never rate without a review. It wouldn't bother me if that was official site policy.

Can I get my ratings without reviews whacked as well? There's not too many.
You can always revise an inadequate one.

I think we should add some sort of coding that states (up until the release date of the album, after which the page will return to the normal reviewing process):
If you would like the review this album before its release date, send a PM to ______ stating your legitimacy as a promotional reviewer.
Unitl the release date, no one but the approved people should be able to review or rate albums.

I agree. Then you won't end up with stuff like this:

How likely is it that a single person has listened to over FIVE THOUSAND prog albums even once? If this person listened to each of the albums s/he reviewed only ONCE, it would still take two and a half years at eight hours a day!
Perhaps the person is a DJ - that's the only conceivable way they might have racked up that many albums. And you'd hope s/he'd listened to them many more times than once.
And not one single review!
Perhaps the worst case or rating abuse I've seen.

Re : collab ID 6701 - 1) 5000 albums is not that out of reach. I own some 2000 CDs. Many are compilations made up of 2 albums per CD, in some cases 1 or a few songs left off the album(s) that I didn't like; while others are basically anthologies. I've bought, sold, traded, borrowed, lent, burnt & had copies burnt. The "best of" ones in my collection were time consuming and sometimes costly (Tull & Crimson's out put being rather large), but I did give each album more than one good listen before deciding which songs I kept. On top of that, over the 30 years that I have been buying music, I've disposed of a good 500 albums. Some were sold/traded because of the above process, some I simply didn't want anymore. Example - Purple's gig with the Philharmonic, the Rush live albums after The whole worlds a stage, and some that I eventually did not like that I transferred to mix cassettes/CDs the songs I liked. I do hope that any review is based on more than a single passing listen. I do wonder though how some of the 1000 album plus reviewers (not just raters) are able to give appropriate time to ensure each album gets a decent listen. Reason - I am at a point, or rather have been for a while, where I cannot honestly claim to know ALL or MOST of my albums inside out. The older or more popular ones I can. More recent purchases, though, while enjoying regular play, I can only state that I love the music, but could not from memory name most songs individually. Heck, even a few Gentle Giant, Ange, and Motorhead albums form part of this group. And yes, s few of those are among my favourites (GG's first, Ange' Seve QUi Peut, Mo'head's INferno) So, I would question not just this particular person, but some others here who manage prodigious amounts of reviews. But then, hey, who knows, maybe they have put in that much time. But maybe not, eh.

Fair play, laplace, I don't have any complaint if other people find this 'rating without review' useful. You're the first to say so.
I'm not calling his/her tastes into question. I'm arguing that it must have been difficult to rate 5000+ albums over an 18-month period (the gap between his/her enrolment and last visit) as it would have taken over two years, at eight hours per day, just to listen to 5000 albums once each.
I have over 2000 albums, about half of which are prog or related. I try to review one per day, but life gets in the way. If it's an album I'm familiar with I may only listen to it once (while I'm writing the review), but new albums need five or more spins before I feel confident enough to write about them.
I can certainly understand other people being much more decisive in their musical tastes and being able to review a new album after one listen. That's not 'abuse'. I can't, though: too many times my opinion of an album has changed after a few listens.
However, I could have spent an afternoon rating my entire collection. Does anyone think that would have been of more use?
Or do we think it OK to rate albums without listening to them? If this user rated albums without listening to them, that would, to my mind, be 'abuse'. And because there is no accompanying review, surely that suspicion must remain.

Indeed! And perhaps he might struggle to express himself to his own satisfaction in English. It's a shame, though. I would like to know the thoughts of someone with such a broad musical palette.
'Abuse' accusation withdrawn. Russell mollified.

For a reference point, I can assure you that NO review copies have gone out, or will indeed go out other than to 2 trusted magazine reviwers. The earliest copies available to people will be 20th/21st Sept at the launch weekend. Any ratings/"reviews" prior to that time (at the earliest) are simply blarney!
Thanks to Yorkie X for spotting that, I'm trying to check it each day now that the album has been listed, but a small matter of production workload means it's not always possible!
Please pass on names for raters or reviewers prior to this time, I am sure the BPI will find their details interesting!

I don't know why people would do that. If everyone that hated Genesis did that SEBTP would have a 2 star average. Good job pointing that out.

^Which brings up the point, if the album hasn't even been released, surely a Progreviewer would be more responsible to even add an album with the potential for ratings abuse? I would never add an album that isn't legally available and I think that should be the case for all members of the site.

Well, in this case, it's been available from Termo records (the label) and from onilne vendors (I got mine from Laser's Edge) for more than a week now. I've seen quite a few times that some albums are in fact available for purchase before their release date (Cheer Accident - Fear Draws Misfortune and Nemo - Barbares are two that come to mind from recent times).
