I'm sure Wayne's World has something when they show Garth's bedroom, which is plastered in posters. Chances are at least one has prog ties. Other than that, School of Rock actually names Yes, Rush, and Floyd, and on the blackboard it shows Crimson and a few others

The obvious one is Children of Men, which featured Deep Purple on the car stereo, a floating inflatable pig outside the building where the cover of ANIMALS was shot, In the Court of the Crimson King, and I've heard that there's an Aphex Twin song, but not sure.
Also in school of rock, Jack Black as the band play Smoke on the water, doesn't he? Or was it Space Truckin'?
In Mr Deeds, Adam sandler and the helicopter pilot sing I've Seen all Good People (or did that song just start playing after? can't remember)

I believe they sing Space Oddity, actually, and I've Seen All Good People is just on the soundtrack (it actually shows up fairly often, though I can't think of any other examples at the moment).

If you look very closely at the blackboard as it zooms out, you can see Zappa and Captain Beefheart listed and the genre is labeled as '?'.

Profundo Rosso by Dario Argento has music by an prog italian group called Goblin. What about Spinal Tap, saw it such a long time ago, I can't remember if they mention any other group...

School of Rock (the spinal tap of my generation) makes a few referances.
In the 40 year old virgin, he has an Asia poster on his wall and they make a joke about people laughing at it.
This is a tv show, but on "Lost" the only references they make to real music is "Phil Collins" and "Peter Gabriel" They are meaning their solo careers but it is interesting because those two were both members of Genesis...not like they meant it because both were so insanely successful as solo artists.
On another note, in "The Patriot" when he says "Stupid boy" he is obviously making a fore-reference to Roger Waters for leaving Pink Floyd and allowing "A Momentary Lapse"... ;)

If I remember correctly, in A Nightmare On Elm Street there's a scene where someone gets sucked into a bed and their liquidised body is then sprayed on the ceiling...
Not pleasant but there's a Grace Under Pressure poster on the wall.

The Vincent Gallo movie "Bufallo '66" has several King Crimson songs featured in it's soundtrack. The roaring finale is a Yes instrumental, which I can't recall the name, but it's a very tight drum and bass combo. Oddly enough it was the same song they used in an air guitar contest I saw for the final round. Where 6 contestants had to prove their "airness" to it.
Freaks and Geeks tv show makes several references to Neil Peart, since a drummer is a featured character on the show. Floyd is also frequently mentioned.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 uses a lot of Rush references, especially when the movie's set or shot in Cananda.

The artist who drew the "Mr. Rossi" cartoons for an Italian TV-cartoon series (which also ran in Germany) was a big fan of Gong, since the houses of the city Mr. Rossi walks through have signs like "Radio Gnome" and "Flying Teapot" on them.

The (recent) Italian Job has one of the worst Floyd covers the world has ever seen (Velvet Revolver doing Money).

When was the Peter Gabriel reference? Don't remember it...but I do remember the Phil Collins mixed tape.

In the show Futurama, they frequently reference Rush (in combination with Shasta and video games).

Well it is when Hurley is talking to (I believe it is to Sawyer) and he mentions some tv show he used to watch and how the guy stands outside a girls house and plays "some peter gabriel song" and the girl swoons over him. This is of course when he is about to go on a picnic with his new-found girlfreind.
Good show...but I hope the 4th season ties up the loose ends and isn't as random as the 3rd season.

Oh yeah...I remember now ^^
Well the 3rd season wasn't "random" (the worst word EVER), but it was certainly unexpected...They have a plan of where it's going to go - they know what will happen for 6 seasons, but they'll never make a 7th season.
