Hello everybody I just joined in the board, although I can say I'm a regular visitor to this wonderful prog site. Nice to meet you all ... hope I'd be welcomed in here  I'm Mike aka leftover from Indonesia. I don't know where I should put myself in to those prog genres because I don't listen to only one genre. But I can say I'm a huge fan of Renaissance, Rush, Kayak, PFM, and King Crimson ... And I do like a 'female lead' band too ... such as Babe Ruth, Frumpy, Karnataka, and the last one I got and I love the sound so much : the Italian Symponic Apoteosi  Thank you all ... kindest regards from Indonesia and here's the prologue  |

Hi Mike, welcome to PA! If you're a regular visitor than you need no guidance to discover more and more music. Since you mentioned that you like female lead bands, do you dig Kate Bush? What about Nightwish? If you like Frumpy you'll probably be interested in Atlantis as well, Inga Rumpf's (and Jean-Jacques Kravetz ' and guitarist Karl-Heinz Schott's) later band (not to be confused with the band Atlantis from the US, who are here in PA). @ Chicapah thank you @ Guzzman thanks for the recommendation ... I have only one album of Kate Bush ... 'the kick inside' 1978. My late father (who also my prog tutor) bought it years ago. Any recommendation? Regarding Inga Rumpf ... if I'm not mistaken, she also made a band with a singer of Henry Cow, didn't she? I don't know the band unfortunately. Also thanks for the Atlantis!  I'm gonna check the band out immediately Anyway, any recommedation of female lead symphonic prog? Regards, mike |

For Kate Bush I'd recommend "Hounds Of Love" (that's because I love that album). I know that others here at PA highly praise her latest effort, "Aerial", which I haven't listened to yet  .I couldn't find any information on a collaboration between Inga Rumpf and members of Henry Cow. Could it be that you mean singer Dagmar Krause, who's German as well? She sang with HC and later formed the band Slapp Happy with Peter Blegvad from HC. ------------- "We've got to get in to get out" |

Kate Bush's "Aerial" is really a masterpiece. The artwork, packaging, and music make such a perfect whole, and the second disc has some prog credentials as well, besides being absolutely stunningly beautiful.

Yeah, it was partly her positive review which made me think that there must be something i am missing when i couldn't quite get into it. Plus someone i know were really into it, and it had a quite generous rating overall. First song i dug was "Nocturn", that was a pretty instant love, but the rest was somehow too mellow for me, but now i get it. It's not boring, it's just relaxed. :) Nocturn/Aerial is a great finish, that laughter/birdsong i used to think was annoying is really sweet, with two of the most beautiful sounds in the world intertwining.. -------------

Welcome. In 1968 Dagmar Krause joined The City Preachers to sing with Inga Rumpf. The Kick Inside happens to be my favourite Bush album, but I'll second Hounds of Love. Lionheart has one of my favourite KB songs with "Wow." My other favourites being "The Man With the Child in His Eyes" from The Kick Inside and "Rocket's Tail" off Sensual World (my introductory album of hers, well I knew her from music videos before, was the compilation, The Whole Story). Laurie Anderson is another Prog-Related (I think she is anyway) artists I like. In Symphonic Prog, I like Prieto from Kotebel. Most of my favourite female singers are not in the symphonic category (love the female singing in U Totem, Eskaton, Cos, Spirogyra, Damar Krause projects, Lisa Herman in Kew Rhone, Comus, Discus (from Indonesia), Koenjihayakkei, Mellow Candle...). I'd suggest you try Bacamarte's Depois do Fim. Since you like Renaissance which is folky symph, many Prog Folk bands with female singers are great... Try Pentangle, Carol of Harvest, Trees, and Mellow Candle. Though avant Prog, I do think U-Totem's debut might be worth your while checking out. ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me. |
