I know Faith No More aren't here on the Archives, but it seems a fairly good hunk of Prog listeners also enjoy them, so I thought I would see what other people thought. I was listening to Faith No More's album "Angel Dust" today while I was painting, and I found myself saying "Wow, this sounds a lot bit like Pain of Salvation!" I know the influence would be the other way around, but I started listening to Pain of Salvation before Faith No More, and my brain is stubborn... Anyway, I just thought if I had gone temporarily crazy because of the Arizona summer heat, or if other people hear what I hear? What I hear the similarity to is Pain of Salvation's previous two albums, "Be" and "Scarsick." I looked for some previous thread on Faith No More, but I think the search engine failed me...I'm sure a band like them has at least been discussed sometime in the past thanks to Mr. Patton... P.S., I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't think Scarsick is a half bad album  ! |

Havent heard very much from Pain of Salvation, but i love Faith No More, so this thread got me a bit intrested in listening to some PoS. -------------

The two singers (who incidentally may be my two favorites growing up) who you can hear most clearly in Gildenlow's voice are Mike Patton and Geoff Tate. I really don't hear anything specifically FNM in the instrumental aspect of PoS. BTW, although folks claim neither FNM or Queensryche are prog, they did more to stretch the Heavy Metal formula than probably any other bands.
Any avant-metal folks who haven't heard Mr. Bungle need to listen to "Carry Stress in the Jaw" off _Disco Volante_

There are influences, yes, but for me mostely in the vocal style. Though I have to second that in Scarsick Pain of Salvation go more crossover than before. By the way - does anyone else think that the vocals in "The Park" by Uriah Heep also sound a lot like Pain of Salvation?
