There have been some really good musicians to come from my home state of Michigan.  I have listed 19 non-prog musicians above, each of which has had some national and/or international success.  I have probably forgot some and hence the other category.  Which of these is your favorite?

Edit:  And for those who might prefer to answer a progressive musician poll, here is an oldie but goodie.

All of those from Michigan???

Had Michigan been an independant country, you would be a (musical) nation to reckon with..Thumbs Up..............            .....and the Detroit Lions would be 9-0 ...not 0-9LOLWinkin the  MFL!!Smile

Favorite??? Alice Cooper for his first LPs!

These days it generally takes the Lions 3 or 4 years to accumulate 9 wins, let alone in 1 season.

And I forgot to add the biggest Michigan musician out there: The Material Girl, Madonna.

I know I know I should have gone with some Motown band or maybe the early punk of Stooges or MC5, but Mitch Ryder...man...that guy knew rock & roll...

I only included a few of the Motown artists but some other big ones that I could have included include Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and Diana Ross and The Supremes.

Good question.  They were on the original list that I was formulating in my head this morning, but when I typed this up I forgot about them.  I actually just found this really cool list on Wikipedia of Michigan musicians.  There is definitely some more that I could have included.

Embarrassed I knew that I was forgetting a big one when I added the other.  Your posts regarding GFR and Ted Nugent, and mine of Alice Cooper got me going on the idea.  I really can't believe that I forgot them.

Of those easily The Stooges.  A fantastic band.  Although that state has had many great musicians come out of it.

I would like to cast my vote for Other: namely, Thought Industry, a Kalamazoo band who were criminally underrated.

Another Michigan band that I could have added was Brian VanderArk and his band The Verve Pipe.  They had a few pretty good albums, and Brian released a new solo album in 2008.

Antoine, I don't know if you would like this or not but this is a link to The Freshmen, which some years back you couldn't turn the radio on (at least locally) without hearing this song.  One of those radio songs that struck a chord with me and thus I enjoyed.  http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1218596341&n=2 - http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1218596341&n=2
