Hello folks. We are the Snake Temple Kings. We've been on the go a while now so thought I'd bring your attention our way. Listen to some of our tracks at http://www.myspace.com/thesnaketemplekings - www.myspace.com/thesnaketemplekings
We have since gotten a new and far superior singer, but if you want to leave feedback to what we've got there, please do.
Also, we will have a selection of newer tracks up in the near future, so i'll keep those interested posted.
Thank you
Rory, STKs

Ok. This thread is now up to 35 views, so i'd like to persuade these few people why to listen to our music.
We are not a new age prog band. Our influences largely consist of older bands, and I'd like to think that although we sound retro, we are bringing in more modern elements.
Our drummer has only been playing 3 years. He is quite the attraction when our band play live. He is a very talented drummer. Listen, and you will be in disbelief of his ability for a drummer of such a short life-span.
Nik Turner offered to play saxaphone on our recordings. (He never did though)
We have been voted best Aberdeen rock band two years running at our local award ceremony. (Ever since we juts can't seem to shake off the photographers outside our houses)
Emm. . . We sing about space, reincarnation, and astral projection?
So please, feedback is very welcome. Until we do get some genuine feedback, I will persist.
Thank you
LVX

Hahaha, good boy! It's worth it ...
sounds good, Palmer - but space rock in a strict sense ... hmmmh ... is not that typical for me according to the thread title - more psychedelic ...
Ad Nauseam is eclectic though predominantly, dramatic, with many breaks and turns, a complex structure - great song which differs from the others! Where did you go and Round and Round - here we have much more Pink Floyd/Hawkwind leanings - a mellow, charming mood
I like this - would be nice to hear more from The Snake Temple Kings

Thanks for the feedback.
I'll have to get round to posting the tunes with our new singer - a huge improvement in our opinion.
Also got some new ones on the way, I'll keep you posted.
Cheers

I agree with the previous poster that this is not strictly space-rock.
You said you have a new singer, so maybe this won't matter, but I thought the vocals were mixed a little low (I know, it's also tempting to do that when you have really cool guitar/synth/drum and bass parts )
Ad Nauseum has very complex structure, I love it. Sounds pretty retro to me.
"Where did you go" reminds me of 70's floyd a lot, and I like it. The sax sounds awesome in this song.
Keep it up and let me know when there is more. Cheers

Where did you go?
Only you know,
I wish I could come,
Find myself one,
Surface gets me so tired,
I wish I could leave
Earth, Water, Air and Fire,
Help me to breathe
The rest of the lyrics vary slightly but are generally very similar, so hope that helps.
Thanks everyone for the feedback, will keep you posted on when the new tracks are put up there.

Ok. I've put a song up with our new singer, Sandy. Changed the lyrics too and its now called "Where did SHE go?". I heard sex sells But his voice has certainly made a lot of difference to the song, and I hope you all like it. Should be more new tunes to follow shortly. Well... shortlyish. http://www.myspace.com/thesnaketemplekings - The Snake Temple Kings on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
Unfortunately I fear the vocals are too low in this mix, but it's an easy fix.

Enjoy

Here's a new song from the Snake Temple Kings. It's short for us but that is only because part two has not been finished yet It's called "Sunchild".
It's a rough mix, but any feedback is appreciated.

Sunshine sounds retro - great! Reminds me of Spooky Tooth occasionally - but more psychedelic and playful in the whole.
Well - one or two additional songs and you can provide a full album!

Listened to all these and loved it.
Here's my review of the songs just to give you my impressions:
'Where did she go' has some incredible saxophone breaks and the voice is clear and easy to listen to. the Hammond sounds are great and I love the synth in the lengthy instrumental section at the end. Its excellent psych prog music.
'Sunchild' starts with a violin sound and guitar that reminds me of the intro to The Doors ‘The End’. It is a slow patient spacey piece with low key vocals, has some Eastern influences, almost like Hawkwind in places. It builds up gradually to an unusual time sig with grinding organ. The guitar chords are well paced sounding a little like The Doors. Lead break is very well executed. There is a mini bass solo, and lots of atmospherics, Steve Hillage style guitar licks backed by loads of synth...Yes, I like this 9 minute song too.
'Everything will be Silver in the Future' Great title for a song, it begins with the main guitar riff, a verse and then a time sig shift, with a driving metrical pattern, it then shifts again to a instrumental break and some spacey guitar licks. There is a more accessible sound in the main section, but a very intricate king Crimsonish time sig locks in at 5:15 and then it pads out to a much mellower tempo, but the drums are quite sporadic. The main melody is reprised after this with David Brock style vocals complete with echo effects. Has genuine moments of dark and light textures, very interesting compelling sound overall.
‘The Fool and The Devil’ begins with a sharp guitar riff and has a theme of out of body out of mind, astral projection and levitation. A strange content backed by very melancholy vocals and nice harmonies. A heavier sound threatens to break out at times with a grungy guitar crunching at 1:40. The lyrics are interesting talking of “demons in my mind.... astral fever, born to believe it....” The crunching riff returns momentarily segueing into a slower section and the time sig totally changes as the male vocalist sings “the fool and the devil” over and over again... A straight rock beat kicks in and very strong sustained keyboard pads. The lead solo is quite subdued, reminding me of a laid back Hawkwind guitar break. The instrumental section builds gradually into an accomplished style, as you might hear from Camel. Great song.
‘Our Vision’ is a 9 minute track that begins with a pulsating industrial sound and ethereal keyboard pads. It builds to a quick tempo guitar riff and space effects. This is definitely reminiscent of Hawkwind, even sounds like Brock at times. The time sig is off kilter and intricate changing a few times. After a couple of verses there is an extended instrumental section with a divine lead guitar that takes off, the band go in to a sound like the more recent Diagonal, very spacey and quite compelling with all the layered instruments and a wind effect ads to the hyper atmospherics.
When is the album coming out?

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and give such an in depth review. We currently have 55 minutes of music for the album, so we were going to put another two tracks (already written) down. That should take the album length to 1 hour 10 minutes or so.
The album art is also currently being worked on. If all goes to plan, it should be ready come july. I shall keep you posted on our progress.
Cheers,
Rory

I don't know about the music but the name pretty sucks :) Snake Temple Kings? How many bands with "temple" and "king" in it exist? Unless that's name is a deliberate joke about lame pompous band names then it is just like that.
