Two of Israel's most acclaimed musicians joined forces during the late 60's and 70's to record the country's first rock opera and concept album "Shablool" (Snail) which influenced Israel's prog, rock and pop scene for the rest of the decade. This album and their later efforts included a combination of Israeli music, psychedelic rock, jazz, folk and blues, as a matter of fact one of their compositions "Mah she-Yoter Amok Yoter Kachol" (The Deeper The Bluer) appeared in Tamouz's album "The Orange Season is Over" (Hanoch's band already listed on PA).

Not entirely fair to judge music from 1970 from a '79 live recording.....
Anyway, if Shablool (the studio album) was a rock opera I assume it was performed by a number of artists and perhaps could fit the "Various Artists (Themed Compilations)" genre ?
In addition, if the rock opera was an established genre in 1970 how can it be proto-prog?

It was a rock opera written by (and credited to) both of them with lots of guest musicians and it was the first one in Israel where these things developed rather late in comparison with other parts of the world (so it wouldn't fit on various artists) + this one and their other albums/compositions could be considered proto-prog because of their style leaning towards prog but without being a fully and developed prog sound + this lineup was very influential to future israeli prog bands and artists since it was one of the first bands to do original music in hebrew with such a kind of influences and experimentation: among the bands that acknowledged this influence are Tamouz (Hanoch's band), Sheshet, Ktzat Acheret, Schlomo Gronich, Shem-Tov Levi, Yoni Rechter, 14 Octaves, etc. several of which are already listed here + they are all considered israeli prog and rock classics. I have some samples of the original recording but the 1979 medley is very similar to the original and was on youtube (main reason of its presence here  )....
