In name of Rush's great introduction to the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in Canada I believe it's top to name your top 5 fav's

1)  2112

2)  Hemispheres

3)  Signals

4)  A Farewell to Kings

5)  Permanent Waves

(Moving Pictures is easily tied for 5 but personally I feel as if the album is too commerical... oh well)

Been listening to a ton of Rush lately, so this is pretty good timing. What I find I'm really admiring is the complexity they put into their 80s/synthesizer/"commercial" period. There are a ton of little things to find if you're looking for them. They are one of the few bands who moved towards synth-sounds and tighter/shorter songs that did so without losing anything.

1) Grace Under Pressure
2) Permanent Waves
3) A Farewell to Kings
4) 2112 (Didn't realize this until recently, but side 2 of this kicks ass! "The Twilight Zone", "A Passage to Bangkok"!)
5) Moving Pictures

This is insane. If a madman pointed a gun at my hand and asked me what my top five favorite Rush albums were, I'd f***ing die.

...

Still...here's my attempt at a top eight (four? depends on how you look at it)....

1. Moving Pictures
1. Hemispheres
2. Fly By Night
2. Permanent Waves
2. 2112
2. A Farewell to Kings
3. Signals
4. Presto

Love them to pieces, but I really am not impressed with the latest. I think the hype got the better of all concerned, in that it was puffed up to be the greatest thing they had done for many years. It wasn't.

I think it's interesting that almost everyone has Permanent Waves in their top five. I've never understood that album. I like the Spirit of Radio and Freewill is okay, but Natural Science and Jacob's Ladder never clicked with me.

Aww Man . . .

I'm not going to get into a argument because of what I pick . . . right?Ermm
Wait . . . is Rush prog? Ooops, sorry.

No order:
1. Hemispheres (Pick a song!)
2. Moving Pictures (Camera Eye and Witch Hunt . . . "sayin' ")
3. Grace Under Pressure (great Tone on Alex's Guitar!)
4. Presto (The "snap" of Pearts Snare, awesome!)
5. Permanent Waves (The Guitar solo in Freewill, songs Jacobs Ladder and Natural Science Clap
I have to say at 18 years old when I got it in 1981- those were the 2 songs that floored me).
After living with all their records for soo long, I STILL notice new sounds from Geds Bass playing
that I didnt notice before.

Hell, this list will change every week!  I can find great songs on every album Big smile!
6. Signals
7. Counterparts are honourable mentions! (yes I cheated).

This is hard list indeed...

1. Hold Your Fire
2.Power Windows
3.Grace Under Pressure
4.Presto
5.Test for Echo

Rush is responsible for introducing me to prog. I know their entire discography, and the 80's Rush just appeals more to me, I like the way the band matured and defined their own style.

Hard to leave out epics like AFTK, Hemispheres and the entire Caress of Steel album tho.

3. A Farewell to Kings

4. Hemispheres

5. Caress of Steel

One of many reasons that the 80's had some very cool music (there was a time for us old farts
that they would say the 70's were a bad time for music, yeah right!).

Hmmm.... Ermm

Tracks: Side A (as on LP)
1. Tom Sawyer
2. Red Barchetta
3. YYZ
4. Limelight

Side B
5. Camera Eye
6. Witch Hunt
7. Vital Signs

uh. . . whats not to like Wink (And I wrote those tracks from memory).

The "Mood" of the Cover and inner Pics reflect the whole tone of the Album, dark, brooding,
musical and as its "analogies", brilliant. The music is a Soundtrack for the "movies" that play
in my head whenever I listen to this great Album Big smile.
