Which of these close to 23 (and in one case exactly 23) minute songs is your favourite?

If A Change of Seasons were substituted for Octavarium, DT would've gotten my vote. It's a tough call between The Water (Spock's Beard) and Supper's Ready (Genesis), but I'll go with the Genesis masterpiece in the end. That album was one of my first prog rock acquisitions.

"Supper's Ready" gets my vote, but "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" and Focus' underrated "Eruption" gave it a run for its money.

Supper's Ready, with Lizard in a reasonably close second.

I think Plague would make an amazing 17 minute song. As it is there's a few minutes of mediocrity in there that drag it down and make it lose focus, and seriously diminish the overall effect of the song.

Crimson by Edge of Sanity is my favorite epic ever (40 minutes of prog-death metal awesomeness!!). Supper's Ready is right after that.

The Water is just fantastic, and I knew from the beginning that Supper's Ready would get more than its share of votes. Otherwise, Supper's Ready is miles and miles ahead of The Water IMO, and that's why I ended up voting for it. It's still worth giving the Beard some recognition!

Of these "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers", closely followed by "Lizard". Does a 22:28 song count? Then it would be "Wassilissa" by Mother Gong from their album "Fairy Tales".
And why is Pink Floyd's "Echoes" at 23:27 not on the list?

Supper's Ready is a movie in the imagination...but, A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers (with Fripp on Guitar) is a conversation with your personal god.  They tie!!  Lizard is then second; if Jon Anderson had done the vocals throughout, it would be a three-way tie.

I'm not a huge fan od Supper's Ready to be honest (at least at the moment ;p). The thing that puts me off is Peter doing the weird, bubblethroaty voices and the obnoxious organ during the "Apocalypse" section. Also, it's really difficult for me to pick a favorite 20+ min. suite, cause it changes all the time. Right now it's Memento z Banalnym Tryptykiem... before that it was Humanizzimo.

My vote goes to the Dutch masters and their instrumental suite, with the "volcanic" guitarwork of Mr Akkermann and "smouldering" organ work by Mr van Leer.

I love some of the other 23 minute epics too but Focus II/Moving Waves is one of the early albums I heard in my musical explorations - it swept me away then and still does...years before I knew anything of Suppers Ready or Nine Feet Underground.

The story may be different if "Echoes" was also listed - but for now those Dutch masters win through being closest to my musical heart...
