As the end of the year approaches and the last few releases of 2010 come to light, it's time to look forward to 2011. What are the albums you are looking forward too / expecting / fearing?
The only definite release I know of so far is Amplifier's double album "The Octopus" (currently available as a pre-order on their site :http://www.amplifiertheband.com/merchandise.php).
Beardfish should also have something new out early 2011 (should be pretty good going by the new song they played on tour with POS).
Hopefully SW and Akerfeldt will bring out their long awaited collaboration in 2011 too. New Blackfield on the way too.

2011 will be the progressive rock year. This year was weak from my perspective. Arena (probably) Pendragon Marillion (probably) Pallas Dream Theater (probably) Pain of Salvation (probably) Porcupine Tree Mikael Akerfeldt Steven Wilson project (less, prog I guess) Rush Mogwai Neo prog comeback year? New Virus no in 2010? F*ck... I didnt know that Cheer-accident are releasing new album, definitely looking forward to it, I totally love Fear Draws Misfortune. Otherwise: Oxbow - The Thin Black Duke Birds and Buildings - Multipurpose Trap Gigan - Quasi-Hallucinogenic Sonic Landscapes Valborg - Barbarian Ne Obliviscaris - TBA Subterranean Masquerade - In pastile colors Akphaezya - Anthology IV Electro Quarterstaff - Aykroyd Unexpect - TBA Bubblemath - TBA (they really should do something! it is taking them forever) Farmakon - Syan I am maintaining list of upcoming releases on RYM according to my tatse. Just to have it all well-arranged and also just for fun. It is mainly metal-based though. I hope I'll find some nice additions here. It seems 2011 could be pretty good, many promising albums were postponed. I hope there will be some good avant-prog too, arent Thinking Plague working on something? Or Bob Drake? |

Ulver was supposedly releasing one this year, but I haven't heard any news about it. So I'm thinking it was pushed to '11. Cuneiform newsletter has a couple of exciting things in the upcoming releases section. Calomito, Cheer Accident, Factor Burazco, Far Corner, The Muffins, Gutbucket. Deconstruction and Ghost already have a release date and you can sample some of the stuff on youtube. Ghost is in post-production and Decon is being tracked as we speak.

To update my first post, I just noticed that Finnish progressive death metallers Farmakon unfortunately disbanded in september 2010 and follower of in my view quite good album Robin (2007) Syan is not planned to be released :( it is sad beacuse it seemed that they are almost done with it. 2011: Drottnar - TBA (I dont know if they belongs here, sometimes they are described as technical/progressive black/death metal. I like them anyway) Alchemist - TBA (EP) somewhere it is still scheduled for 2010 so I dont know Self Spiller - Worms in the Keys (some weird experimental stuff, but interesting line-up: Jason Walton, Andy Winter, Mirai Kawashima etc.) Empyrean Sky - Extending the Tangent, |

Ulver has confirmed on their MySpace page their next album, Critical Geography, for 2011.
I also read Opeth has 8 new songs written, but won't start recording until they have more than 15. Double album, maybe? |

Paatos and White Willow are currently working on new albums. They originally planed for late 2010 but since there's been no word I'm guessing 2011 is more likely.
Other than Tartar Lamb II, I'd expect something from Toby Driver as that man doesnt stop. ------------- Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

He's releasing his recording of his new opera Kepler, obviously based on the life of astronomer Johannes Kepler. His new violin concerto is also premiering this year which I hope will be recorded.
