The first era, is the only era I know all albums from. I like what i know of the second phase

And I hardly know the last phase, so naturally I go for the first era

I love all Rush but have a preference for their work in the 70's.

Being a huge Rush fan, this is very hard for me.  Some of my favorite individual songs come from the 80's era but if you go for overall work album by album, I would have to prefer 70's Rush.  What I love about 80's and 90's Rush is more incorporation of Geddy Lee's keyboards - it just added a whole new dimension to their already complex music.  Very very hard for me to choose just one Rush album, again with me liking so many individual songs on many albums.

Somehow I think I did not answer the original question!?

The more that things change, the more they stay the same.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

their first era was their best, A Farewell to Kings (1977) being their best imo.

I marked "70's" era but I think their music periods shown there are not accurate, they've changed and gone through various styles, i'd say this intervals are more precise:

1) Rush - Fly by Night

2) Caress of Steel - 2112

3) Farewell to Kings - Moving Pictures

4) Signals - Hold Your Fire

5) Presto - Roll the Bones

6) Counterparts - Vapor Trails

...now, i'd go for the 3rd one even though i keep thinking that each Rush album has really a certain mood, style and charateristics that makes each unique and is really dificult to aggroup.

tough one, as all their records are great.  I would probably say the 70s, but the 90s aren't too fat behind.

Voted 80's.

Their 70's output was great, but Moving pictures is my favourite album of all time, and the 80's also produced Exit Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure and Presto which are all excellent IMO.

Well, all eras are great (even in the 80's and 90's).
But I definetely prefer the 70's (Farewell To Kings
being my favorite). But Permanent Waves (being
released in 1980) is the peak of Rush musianchip
and sound (never get tired of listening to Jacob's
Ladder and Natural Science).

Well, at least that's my opinion .

The early years of Rush when they were virtually unknown is  my favorite "Era."

I WOULD CHOOSE THE 70´S ERA (BUT I WOULD INCLUDE MOVING PICTURES IN IT) THOUGH I LOVE THEM ALL.

2112 IS THE FIRST I GOT FROM RUSH AND ONE OF MY TOP 5 EVER FROM EVERYONE

Yes , Moving Pictures should be linked to 70's albums.

The 80's period starts at Signals.

I went 70s but I think it's better to define Rush's eras by album groupings - where they abandoned one style and went for another I'd lock 'em down a little like this

First phase
Rush
Fly By Night
Caress of Steel
2112

Second Phase
Farewell to Kings
Hemispheres
Permanent Waves
Moving Pictures

Third phase
Signals
Grace Under Pressure
Power Windows
Hold Your Fire

Fourth phase
Roll the Bones
Presto

Fifth Phase
Anything thereafter....

and for me it's gotta be Phase Two - what a quartet of albums!
