Prog is mostly keyboards but the guitar is pretty important too. In my opinion the main instruments should be vocals(more than one vocalist is pretty much standard for harmonies), guitar, bass, drums, and a keyboard player with an army of manuals in front of him!!!! Hammond, moog, mellotron, piano, an an electric piano. Possibly a harpsichord........all that good stuff.

Nothing screams PROG SONG! like a good flute solo... --also a hefty bass presence (rush, Yes, ELP, Liquid tension, ...) helps to distinguish the sound. hell, everyone and their mom has keyboard in the band... |
