This isn't a post of criticism- kudos to Morningrise for a great poll contest. The inevitable controversy throughout the competition gave me the idea to see how many of these quarterfinalist bands people enjoy/like, since there's been a lot of people bemoaning the lack of their favourite bands. I'm not sure exactly what this achieves; maybe it'll say something about the relative obscurity of people's musical tastes compared to the PA 'mainstream'. But, I thought it could be an interesting idea anyway.
In case you've forgotten, the top 8 are Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Phideaux, Marillion, Riverside, Dream Theater, Anekdoten and Opeth.

I love them all; they pretty much all show up on my favorite artist list. I like the overall turnout of the poll.

I would say "Opeth and Anekdoten." There was a time when I liked PT and DT too, but too much of their material in the last (insert duration here) has just been awful

I only like PT and Opeth. But I will vote for Anekdoten, Riverside and Marillion in their respective quarter finals because at least I like their oppenents even less than I like them.

Dream Theater and Anekdoten are not really my thing though neither are bad at all; I can enjoy some of their stuff.
Phideaux, PT, Spocks Beard and Opeth are very good, Riverside are excellent and Marillion are just ....well, Marillion. After IQ, the second best post 1980 prog band and an endless source of enjoyment, whether with H or Fish I care not one jot.

Believe it or not, I actually have a list, with bands and albums I want to check out. I really want to check out that band Yezda Urfa, probably more so than Anekdoten.

I like some Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater, have a few albums of each, but prefer Spock's Beard and Fish-era Marillion (which is my favorite on this list). I've liked what little I've heard of Phideaux but I do not have any albums. I have no opinion on Riverside or Anekdoten, but they do not appeal to me. I dislike Opeth. I do not find it unbelievable that anybody on this site has a list of what they want to check out. I have one myself. I would be surprised at anybody here who didn't have one. Aren't we all just a little bit obsessive that way?

I enjoy them all but would rate Porcupine Tree and Anekdoten as 1A and 1B and it would depend on the day as to which one was A or B. Then quite a ways down would be the rest.Misplaced Childhood,Damnation,Train Of Thought and V are all killer albums from the other six bands.

All of them. Although Spock's Beard very recently and because of Morningrise's poll. Like many I love Marillion's Fish era. I haven't paid enough attention to the Hogarth albums to form a definitive opinion.
But I love almost everything Porcupine Tree does.
And I should probably start such a list.

I'm very keen on five of the semifinalists - PT, Phideaux, Marillion, Riverside and Anekdoten.
Spock's Beard I flat-out don't enjoy.
Dream Theater and Opeth have put out some albums I wouldn't want to be without (like Awake and Still Life), and others I'm not so keen on. So since I half-enjoy them, I rounded off my vote to 6.

7 out of 8. The whole competition pretty much reflects my taste in prog, so I don't know whether I should be flattered or sad, since voting like a majority in essence just means being 'the average prog fan'.
Um, anyways, I should give Anekdoten more playtime, maybe I'll discover their appeal. I have got used to Phideaux pretty well, although I have to consume it selectively not to become bored.

All of them to varying degrees. Of the bunch, Phideaux is by far my favorite, but I also really dig Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree and Marillion. I've only heard a little bit of Anekdoten, but what I've heard I like. I only have one Opeth album and perhaps that is all I will ever own - Heritage, which I think is excellent and wish they'd do this style of music more often. I like some of DT's stuff, Awake probably being my favorite, with Scenes a close second. Haven't been into much of their stuff since Octavarium.

Favorites would be DT as 1st and Marillion as 2nd.

None (0) of these groups has a single album which rates among my personal all-time favorites; only two (2) of these eight (8) groups has any albums that I enjoy (Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet and Lightbulb Sun and Anekdoten's Waking the Dead, Live in Japan 2005)!!!
