Paul Whitehead (e.g. some Genesis and VDGG albums), and on Alex Carpani both albums among others, also like a lot Tage Ĺsen responsable for some Coste Apetrea albums, Sammla Mannas, and almost all releated bands to these two.

That's really difficult. My favourites would be Hipgnosis, Roger Dean and Paul Whitehead.

Okay, If I must choose: Paul Whitehead, and then especially because of his classic trilogy of Genesis covers and Peter Hammill's Fools Mate cover.

Cover art of  "In The Court..." is really iconic and invincible for me! It's interesting that's only one Godber's painting and he died shortly after the album's release...

I vote for Dean, but if you like this kind of things pay a visit to www.senmuth.com. Valery Av is a designer and all the cover arts of his more than 100 albums are designed by him.

As an individual artist, I have to go with Dean, but the Hipgnosis group (I'm assuming it wasn't a single artist) did some fantastic work.  H.R. didn't do that many album covers that I know of but the BSS was awesome.  He was a rather prolific artist though perhaps best known for his work for the movie Alien.

Dean seems to be very monotonous sometimes , but I understand the general affection of PA members to him; his paintings actually reflects all things which we really imagine under the term "Prog". But I rather like, let's say, Hipgnosis.

Hipgnosis for me, I liked the more graphic art style. Roger Dean is great but I find alot of his albums seemed to repeat motifs after the first classic Yes albums. Hipgnosis did one of my favourite modern album covers; The Pineapple Thief's "Someone Here Is Missing". If Geiger had done more it would've been him. Brain Salad Surgery is one of my all time favourites.

Dean didn't steal from Avatar........ it was the other way round, quite obviously.

Anyway, Giger gets my vote for being eccentric and ahead of his time.

Giger, Whitehead and Thorgerson(Hipgnosis) are the only ones I really like. Went with Giger. Smith and Dean have their moments.
The ITCOTCK cover is wonderful as well, but unfortunately it was Godber's only artwork before he passed away in '70.

Roger Dean is iconic.  For a while in the 70s and 80s I tried to collect all the Dean covers I could find.  Still have a bunch stashed away, including some rarities I think.

Why on earth would you pick Hugh Syme's worst album cover ever to represent him?

I wish Storm Thorgerson was one of the options.... How could he not be?

Roger Dean it is then.

Please suggest any better example, you complainer! So, everyone has a different taste, do you know?

Regarding Thorgerson, he's included in Hipgnosis. Or can I itemize this option?

I agree with JS, that cover is ruined by the airplane tail. It's not moving, just sticking out there like a mountain peak. The photoshop distortion on the Majesty symbol is especially horrid - don't know what he was thinking there.Confused
A lot of Syme's covers have little lame mistakes like that.
Permanent Waves or Moving Pictures would be much better examples, I think his best works are the ones he did for Rush.
You also picked Lasse Hoile's worst cover, pretty much anything else would've been better.Tongue

According to Swilson on his FB page, absolutely nothing was done to this photograph.  It is old polaroid stock in a pinhole camera at sunset.  No photoshopping, no nothing, what you see is exactly how it developed when pulled from the camera.

Please suggest any better example, you complainer! So, everyone has a different taste, do you know?

I agree with JS, that cover is ruined by the airplane tail. It's not moving, just sticking out there like a mountain peak. The photoshop distortion on the Majesty symbol is especially horrid - don't know what he was thinking there.Confused
A lot of Syme's covers have little lame mistakes like that.
Permanent Waves or Moving Pictures would be much better examples, I think his best works are the ones he did for Rush.
You also picked Lasse Hoile's worst cover, pretty much anything else would've been better.Tongue
I must to declare again that's a matter of everyone's taste. For me personally,  majority of Rush's albums covers are perceived as quite cheesy, I like Syme's artworks for Dream Theater much more. Likewise, I really enjoy Holie's artwork for Grace For Drowning, thus I've picked it.

However, changed for your satisfaction. But against my feelings.Unhappy

That's who i voted for,i just love his style. That dark and melancholic look really works for me. It's interesting that maybe his best album cover art is so different from the rest, and i'm talking about Opeth's Heritage cover art.Brilliant stuff !
