are YOU fan of the style of balkan rock or gypsy punk/rock, like Tom Waits influenced rock music, with half acoustic half electric instrumentation, organ, banjo, harmonica, accordian, rubberbass, etc, also this style of music often features a healthy dose of cabaret influenced thematics and theatrics in the music,

what are the best bands to get into if you want to listen to it,

i know of three quite good balkan rock acts from my homecontry

Kaizers Orchestra - they defies modern balkan rock for me,
Major Parkinson - balkan rock meats prog rock, meats cabaret
Grand Island - balkan/gypsie punk rock, experimental

Kaizers Orchestra

Major Parkinson

Grand Island

I like Major Parkinson considerably,; not so keen on the others based on these tracks based on first listen (I do like qualities that they have).

Though a long way from any of your clips - I have been attending quite a number of underground parties all over Copenhagen the last couple of years that featured Balkan music. Although this kind of music relies mostly on accordions, saxophones, trumpets and various percussive instruments. All of these acts were people living on street corners stepping by for a laugh or two - sprucing up the party. Romanian, Hungarian, Estonian mixed with all kinds of jazz and yeah punk. Really interesting stuff to say the least... I've never seen a person attending one of these that didn't dance and jump like were their legs on fireLOL

BTW I love Kaizer's Orchestra and I've seen them a good 15 times live.
