4 stars Ange will record another one of his legendary seventies album in its entirety during this concert. I can't understand that twenty-six years have passed between the actual concert and the release of this live album. Maybe that the English release of this album "By The Sons Of Mandrin" (also in 2003) is the cause of this strange fact...

Due to this very late release, one of their most fantastic album (five stars) "Au-Delà du Délire" which was also played live in its full lenght on the very good "Un P'tit Tour Et Puis S'En Vont" will be release earlier although recorded in 1995. Strange, strange.

This is not the only similarity. What is very interesting in this live recording, is that we'll get the story told between the numbers which is very helpful, because I could not really enter into this concept of medieval thieves robbing around, sitting around the campfire etc. Somewhat weak for a concept IMO even if my mother tongue is French.

Each song is superior to the studio version. Even more theatrical (if possible). Even the folkish "Autour Du Feu" or the weak "Saltimbanques" gets another dimension. And what to say about about the version of " Ainsi S'En Ira La Pluie" ? Absolutely fantastic, really ! As the gorgeous guitar break during "Atlantis - Les Géants De La Troisième Lune".

This will also be the occasion of releasing a fifth live version of "Hymne À La Vie", if I have counted correctly throughout all these live records. This one being the best and the most extended one. The sound throughout this live recording is excellent (remember that it was played live in 1977...).

The original album was not my preferred one of the band (I rated it with three stars). I must say that this live version is far more pleasant. On the remastered version, two fantastic tracks (encores) will be added. "Exode" was an excellent piece of music available on their great album "Au Delà Du Délire". The finale is devastating. The last one, is a sublime rendition of one of their oldest songs : "Le Vieux De La Montagne". Only available as a single, on compilations or on live albums.

What is also very emotional is to hear the fanstastic atmosphere : Ange is a mega-star in France. In a 1974 poll, they got over 38, 3% of vote as the best French band / artist. The second one was "Magma" with 8,4% and the third one Michel Polnareff with 6,6 %. Did you say star ?

Four ones for this great live album.
