3 stars "8 Soothing Songs for Rut" is a compilation album by Norwegian hard rock act Motorpsycho. The compilation was released through Voices of Wonder in 1992 and features two tracks from the "3 Songs for Rut (1992)" EP and six tracks from the "Soothe (1992)" EP.

While the two tracks from "3 Songs for Rut (1992)" are a bit more direct and also shorter than most of the six tracks from the "Soothe (1992)" EP, the music style is more or less the same on all tracks. It's hard rock music heavily influenced by late eighties Soundgarden. There is a slight psychadelic/semi-progressive twist featured on some tracks, which was something the band would further develop on later in their career, but here it's only influences and brief moments of more experimental character, which pop up now and again.

It's safe to say the music on the compilation is not the most original sounding material in the world, but it's of pretty good quality both in terms of musicianship, songwriting and sound production so upon conclusion it's a relatively enjoyable release. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
