2 stars PIKE 105 - THE MOLTRAIL is the 4th release by BUCKETHEAD in 2015. Hovering around the thirty minute mark (30:09) this is yet another instrumental release. This one has three tracks and is again a digital release only with BUCKETHEAD playing all the instruments.

Track one is "The Moltrail Part 1" at 10:21. Another jammy type of bluesy hard rock track that has a repetitive riff only this time is downtuned to sound more like a 90s alternative rock / metal band like Alice In Chains or Soundgarden. The formula is quite predictable. Play riff, add bluesy hard rock solos, repeat. Well played of course but no songwriting here whatsoever. Has parts that are clearly nods to Hendrix.

Track two is "The Moltrail Part 2" at 16:33. This one is less bass oriented in sound and has the more familiar hard rock / traditional metal sound but once again, this is an extended jam that goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and freekin' on. Nice soloing especially at the end but when all is said and done this is all cliché as FK and likewise pretty boring if you want some kind of innovation.

Track three is "Woven Wire" and at 3:15 is a nice break from the extended ennui. This actually has a nice progressive metal riff. This actually has an interesting solo. It is thrashy. It is short. I like it. WTF? This guy has gone off the deep end with all this release everything "i can think of whether anybody should hear it or not" crap. This last track is actually pretty good but the rest i could totally throw off a cliff.
