3 stars Dirt Box is a pretty good album for the 1 shot band Blackwater Park (not to be confused with the Opeth album Blackwater Park) but in no way as I see it has any progressive characteristics.. It was one of the first albums I've heard initially when I started to get interested in 'progressive rock'. At the time I didn't really know what the term was or how it could be defined, but now after I'm familiarized (if only for a bit more) with the genre, I can say this is not really progressive rock, definitely not Krautrock, if you compare it to the giants of the subgenre such as Can, Amon Duul II, etc..

However, putting defintions aside, this is a pretty good rocker album. Good guitar playing, catchy songs, pretty heavy stuff. My favourite would be the closing track For No One which is ofcourse a beatles cover (rubber soul or revolver, I can't recall). a very pleasent interpretation of the song.

overall I'd give this album 3 stars, which is fair I think. it's quite a good album to listen to every once in a while, but there are far better albums in the style.
